Ancient Elm Trees in the House
Elm trees (scientifically known as Ulmaceae) are also common shade trees. Elm trees are tall and are often planted in front of and behind houses to provide shade or in public places. In ancient times, people often buried their deceased relatives under the roots of elm trees, so elm trees were considered ghost trees. Planting elm trees behind houses helps ward off evil spirits and bad luck. In Chinese phonetics, the words “du” and “du” have the same pronunciation, so the elm tree is also considered lucky, known as the “money surplus tree.” Elm trees are long-lived and can live for centuries, making them valuable treasures. The older the tree, the greater its value. With these meanings, the ancients advised against cutting down mature elm trees as it may cause the family to lose luck and fortune.

Rose trees are familiar fruit trees known for their beauty. The ancients believed that rose trees symbolize good fortune and prosperity, wishing for a prosperous family, successful descendants, smooth sailing, and abundant wealth. The presence of mature rose trees in a house signifies that the family is blessed with luck and fortune. Therefore, removing these trees would disrupt the positive Feng Shui in the house and drain away the source of wealth. This act of cutting down these trees may not only bring bad luck but also invite troubles and losses.
