As the pandemic continues to evolve, Ho Chi Minh City has initiated a vaccination program offering 3 main types of vaccines:
- AstraZeneca (UK)
- Pfizer
- Moderna
- Sinopharm (China)

1 Individuals Who Should Get the Covid-19 Vaccine
Eligible Candidates for the Covid-19 Vaccine
Individuals eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine are those who meet the age requirements for vaccination as advised by the manufacturer and do not have a history of hypersensitivity to any of the vaccine’s components or excipients.
Prior to vaccination, our vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and respiratory rate will be checked to ensure we meet the requirements for vaccination.
Pregnant women in their first trimester (up to 13 weeks) are advised to postpone vaccination.
Priority Groups for Covid-19 Vaccination
According to the Ministry of Health, there are 11 priority groups for Covid-19 vaccination:
- Medical staff
- Staff involved in pandemic prevention (steering committees at all levels, quarantine facility staff, journalists, etc.)
- Diplomats, customs officers, and immigration officers
- Military personnel
- Police officers
- Teachers and other education sector employees
- Individuals aged 65 and above
- Essential service providers: aviation, transportation, tourism, electricity, water supply, etc.
- Individuals with chronic illnesses
- Individuals with plans for overseas work, study, or travel
- Individuals in epidemic areas as determined by epidemiological indications
However, according to the latest announcement from the Ministry of Health, these priority groups must meet the following conditions:
- Individuals must be within the age range recommended by the manufacturer and specified in the vaccine’s instructions for use.
- Individuals must not have a history of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any excipients in the vaccine.

2 Individuals Advised Not to Get the Covid-19 Vaccine
Groups Requiring Special Caution
These cases require careful screening and vaccination at a medical facility with adequate emergency resuscitation capabilities:
- Individuals with a history of allergies to other allergens.
- Individuals with underlying medical conditions that are well-controlled.
- Individuals who have lost consciousness or have behavioral disorders.
- Individuals aged 65 and above.
- Individuals with a history of thrombocytopenia or bleeding disorders.
- Individuals with chronic illnesses and abnormal findings in pulse, blood pressure, or respiratory rate.
For further reference:
Individuals aged 65 and above or with cardiovascular issues should exercise caution when getting the Covid-19 vaccine
Groups Requiring Postponement
- Individuals with acute or uncontrolled chronic illnesses.
- Individuals with severe immunodeficiency, end-stage cancer, or decompensated cirrhosis.
- Individuals who have received high-dose corticosteroid treatment or chemotherapy/radiotherapy within the last 14 days.
- Individuals who have recovered from Covid-19 within the last 6 months.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Note: Pregnant women may still be advised to get vaccinated if the benefits of vaccination outweigh the potential risks.
Pregnant women, individuals with HIV, cancer, etc. belong to the group requiring postponement of vaccination
Groups Prohibited from Getting the Vaccine
- Individuals with a history of anaphylaxis of degree 2 or higher to any allergen.
- Individuals with contraindications as specified by the vaccine manufacturer.
