It is often said that “there are no ugly women, only those who don’t know how to take care of themselves.” Beyond physical appearance, it is essential to prioritize one’s physical and mental health, exuding freshness and vitality. True beauty emanates from within, encompassing everything from skincare to nail care, hair to eyelashes, and even dental aesthetics, as “a person’s beauty is reflected in their hair and teeth.”

“As I approach my mid-30s, taking care of my skin has become a priority,” shares Thu Ha (32, Hanoi). “I invest in a good anti-aging skincare routine, including a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and eye cream, which costs me about 2.5 million VND every three months. Additionally, I spend money on face masks, hand and foot creams, sunscreen, and makeup. I keep my makeup routine simple, focusing on sunscreen with a tint and a touch of lipstick. I also take supplements like vitamin E, evening primrose oil, and collagen, which cost around 2 million VND for a three to six-month supply. Due to my busy work schedule, I don’t frequent spas or hair salons, but I make time for yoga to stay in shape. In total, I spend approximately 3 to 4 million VND per month on self-care.”

Ha Ngan (24, Hai Phong) has a different perspective: “I love getting my nails done, so I treat myself to a new set every two weeks, which costs me 300,000 VND per month. My skincare routine is straightforward since I don’t have any significant skin concerns: makeup remover, cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. However, I do splurge on makeup, including lipstick, cushion foundation, concealer, primer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, and blush, as I work as a customer service consultant and need to look presentable. I also indulge in a monthly spa treatment for skincare and relaxation. In total, I spend around 1.5 to 2 million VND per month on self-care.”

Hai Minh (30, Quang Ninh) has a strong belief in the importance of youth and beauty: “I think it’s crucial for women to look young and beautiful, so I’m willing to invest in myself. When I was a student, I couldn’t afford expensive products, so I made natural face masks at home. Now that I can afford it, I splurge on high-quality cosmetics. In addition to skincare and makeup, I regularly get my nails done and enjoy spa treatments, hair salon visits, and massages. Every two weeks, I treat myself to a full-body steam and massage. Of course, I also take beauty supplements, like collagen, which costs 1.2 million VND for a month’s supply. I also go to the gym, which costs 1 million VND per month. I admit that taking care of myself can be expensive, and I probably spend around 6 to 7 million VND per month on self-care, sometimes even more.”

On the other hand, Ha Thu (25, Hanoi) takes a more relaxed approach: “To be honest, I’m quite lazy when it comes to beauty routines. I buy skincare products, but I often end up not using them consistently. Most days, I just wash my face, apply sunscreen, put on some lipstick, and head out the door. I also prefer to wash my hair at home. I’ve never gotten into the habit of doing my nails. Overall, I probably spend the most on basic hygiene products like shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I haven’t calculated my monthly expenses, but I’d estimate that I spend around 300,000 to 500,000 VND per month on self-care.”

For women, the pursuit of beauty knows no bounds, and there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Some women embrace the art of self-care and strive for a youthful, radiant appearance, while others prefer a more understated approach, either out of personal choice or professional necessity.

However, regardless of individual preferences, it is essential for all women to practice self-love and care. Investing time, money, and effort into one’s well-being is a worthwhile endeavor, ensuring that we always look and feel our best, both for ourselves and those around us.
