1. Do not shrug clothes before drying

When drying clothes, before putting them on the hangers, don’t forget to shake the clothes a few times to loosen the wrinkles. Because during the washing process, clothes are squeezed, the fibers that have not had time to recover will make ironing more difficult. Shrugging before drying will make ironing clothes easier and faster.

2. Dry until hard

Do not dry clothes for too long, causing the fabric to become stiff and difficult to unfold, because it will make ironing take longer and put extra pressure on the ironing board. Another problem that will occur afterwards is that after ironing, you can see some wrinkles and need to iron again.

3. Do not read the instructions

Before each ironing, check the garment label to see which heat is good and suitable to avoid damaging the fabric because each type of fabric’s thickness, thinness, and heat sensitivity are different. Using too little heat will make the fabric uneven, but if the heat is too high, it can cause damage.

4. Do not sprinkle water before ironing

Only using an ironing board will not make the fabric as smooth as you want. If you don’t want to iron multiple times, you should spray water or use an ironing solution on the clothes beforehand. Using a steam ironing board is even more convenient because you just need to press the steam button to adjust the steam mode and start ironing right away.

5. Do not adjust the heat level

If you have many clothes to iron, you should start with a low temperature such as silk, synthetic fabric, rayon, thin fabric, and dark fabric. Next are fabrics with medium temperatures such as wool, and finish with fabrics with the highest temperatures, including cotton and linen. Whenever you increase the heat level, you should let the ironing board heat up for 2 minutes, then continue ironing. Fabrics with a structure like velvet should be turned inside out from the inside out to avoid damaging the garment.

6. Do not style the clothes before ironing

Before ironing, you should style the clothes first, and if it is a shirt, start ironing from the sleeves on both sides, then the collar. Let it hang for 2-3 minutes before ironing it again. Fold the pants crease before ironing. Hold from the bottom of the pants to the end of the crease from the waist down to 6 inches (about 15 cm). For skirts, iron from top to bottom. And if you need to crease, turn the fabric inside out.

7. Poor quality ironing board

Choosing fabric for the ironing board is very important because besides making ironing easier, it also helps make ironing faster and more beautiful. For example, if the ironing board is good, you only need to iron one side but it can make the fabric smooth on both sides at the same time, so there is no need to switch back and forth to iron the front and back sides. But note that the ironing board must be detachable and washable.

8. Do not hang on a hanger after ironing

Some people may hurry to iron and wear the clothes immediately. In the end, they notice that the clothes are wrinkled as if they have not been ironed. Therefore, after ironing the clothes, no matter how rushed you are, you should hang them on a hanger and wait for the fabric to settle for about 5 minutes before wearing them.

9. Bad mood

Many people don’t like ironing because they find this job too boring, so they usually finish it hastily, causing the clothes to be misshapen and not flat as desired. Therefore, before and while ironing clothes, build up your mood with good music or turn on the TV and enjoy it while ironing, which will make your ironing job more enjoyable, no longer a boring task.
