Following the Tet holiday, on February 15, the price of gasoline has increased. Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance – Ministry of Industry and Trade decided to increase the retail price of E5 RON 92 gasoline by an additional 711 dong/liter, to a level of 22,831 dong/liter, and also increased the retail price of RON 95 gasoline by 657 dong/liter, to a level of 23,919 dong/liter. Retail price of diesel also increased by 654 dong/liter, to 21,361 dong/liter. The retail price of kerosene increased by 633 dong/liter, to 21,221 dong/liter. Mazut oil increased by 308 dong/kg, to 15,906 dong/kg.

Smart people only know the tricks to save gasoline when traveling:

Don’t fill up the tank, fill up the exact number of liters (1, 2, 3… liters)

When refueling, we often say to fill up the tank or fill up with a certain amount of money like 50,000, 100,000, but smart people know that filling up with the exact number of liters is more advantageous.

There are several reasons why you shouldn’t fill up the tank:

– First, it is best to fill up according to your travel needs. Filling up the tank causes inconvenience because the fuel evaporates during use, wasting fuel, and a full tank makes the vehicle heavier, resulting in higher fuel consumption. Therefore, if you only refuel once every two weeks, it is better to divide it into two separate times.

– Second, filling up the tank makes you lose out, receiving less fuel. The reason is that with the “check valve” mechanism, when the tank is nearly full, it will automatically shut off to prevent overflow. This is not a cheating trick, it is a safety feature that allows the fuel to be sucked back into the pump to prevent the tank from overflowing, while the pump’s meter is still running. This means that in reality, you pay for a full tank of fuel but you don’t receive as much. This is not a deceptive gas station, it is simply because consumers do not understand the safety principles of the fuel tank and the gas station.

Therefore, if you specify the number of liters instead of saying fill up the tank, it will be more beneficial for yourself.

Fill up when the tank is half full, avoid waiting for it to be almost empty before refueling, and avoid overfilling

If you don’t travel much, it is best to fill up a moderate amount of fuel, not too much. For example, if the tank is full and it takes you a whole month to use it up, you should only fill up half a tank because a heavier vehicle consumes more fuel. At the same time, if you wait until the tank is almost empty before refueling, the flowing fuel will encounter greater pressure, causing the fuel to expand in volume, so it will quickly increase the fuel capacity, and you will be at a disadvantage. Therefore, don’t let the tank run empty before refueling, and each time you refuel, don’t overfill it compared to your consumption needs.

Fill up in the morning or evening, avoid midday especially on sunny days

Gasoline is a type of fuel that expands in volume with temperature. Therefore, refueling at different times with the same amount of money can result in different actual volumes. If you refuel in the morning or evening, the fuel volume will not be expanded due to temperature, so you will receive the desired volume corresponding to the amount of money. On the other hand, if you refuel during a sunny midday, the fuel will expand, so in reality, you will receive less fuel than in the morning, this is not a cheat, it is a natural mechanism.

Avoid refueling when the tanker truck is pumping fuel

You should not refuel when the tanker truck is pumping fuel into the gas station tank because at that time, the increased pressure in the gas station’s fuel tank will cause the fuel to expand, and you will lose out in terms of volume. Moreover, it is also advisable to avoid refueling because you will inhale more gasoline fumes and it will be noisier.

Observe gas stations where many taxis refuel

Taxi drivers frequently use their vehicles and gasoline consumption is considered a reduction in income, so they are experienced in choosing reputable gas stations. You should buy gasoline from gas stations where many taxi drivers or truck drivers refuel because they are people with experience in selecting reputable gas stations.

If you see two employees working together, avoid buying as you may be deceived

The issue of gas station cheating has been widely discussed in the media. The experience of many people shows that if 2 people are working together: one is pumping fuel and the other is pressing the meter, there is a 95% chance of gas station fraud. Employees may claim that due to the large number of customers, 2 people are needed to work quickly, but in reality, they may be cheating customers. You should be cautious in this situation.

Request the staff to reset the meter to “0” before refueling to avoid losses

As a customer, you have this right with the reason that there are many customers or because you are standing far from the pump, many gas station attendants often leave the meter at the level of previous refueling and continue to sell gasoline to you. This leads to more errors, so customers will suffer losses.

Pay attention to the meter on the pump when the staff is refueling

To avoid fraud at gas stations, you should take this action to make gas station attendants more careful. It also helps you to detect any mistakes made by the gas station attendants.

Compare between purchases to see which gas station is reputable

Since you travel on a fixed route, comparing refueling sessions will help you identify problematic gas stations and avoid them.

Be careful where you park, especially on sunny days

Leaving your car outside in the sun makes the car hot, dangerous, and causes gasoline to evaporate. Therefore, you should avoid gasoline evaporation by tightly closing the fuel tank cap and parking your car in a shaded area. By doing so, you can also save a significant amount of gasoline.

If you stop at a red light for a long time, remember to turn off the engine

Stopping at a red light for a long time can cause fuel consumption if you don’t turn off the engine, and it also emits more exhaust causing heat. Therefore, if you stop at a red light for a long time or need to stop the car for a conversation or to listen to the phone for more than 30 seconds, you should turn off the engine.
