Facial Cleansing – an essential step in skincare
First, remove the foundation and makeup layers with suitable makeup remover and facial cleanser. Pay extra attention to the delicate areas around the eyes and lips. Next, replenish any lacking oil and moisture with toner and moisturizer.
Moisturize with facial cream
At night, less sebum is produced compared to the day time. To avoid dull-looking skin in the morning, apply moisturizer as part of your skincare routine before going to bed. For oily skin, use moisturizer in the right method at night to balance the skin’s moisture and oil levels.
Moreover, oily skin often has enlarged pores. If not properly taken care of, the size of the pores becomes harder to fix as one gets older.
Choose a moisturizer for the night that does not contain mineral oil, avoid applying it on the T-zone, and use proper massage techniques to ensure the moisturizer is fully absorbed by the skin.
Apply eye cream
It is beneficial to use an eye cream or serum that contains vitamins A, C, E, and K, as they help regenerate and reduce dark circles.
When applying the cream, use the ring finger. Compared to other fingers, the ring finger applies the least pressure to the eyes, making the massage gentle and avoiding sagging around the eyes. Keep a 1cm distance from the eye crease.
Emphasize sleep quality
During sleep, the body switches to repair mode. Melatonin (a hormone that protects the skin) is produced during this time. The recommended sleep duration for adults is around 7 to 8 hours per night. Sleep quality is as important as sleep quantity. To have a good night’s sleep, set a fixed wake-up time, even if you slept late the previous night.
Sleeping position
The most important aspect of nighttime skincare is the sleeping position. If you sleep face-down, blood will accumulate on your face and cause facial swelling.
The best sleeping position is lying on your back. This is because lying on your back reduces pressure on the face, thus minimizing the impact on collagen structure and preventing wrinkles. Additionally, lying on your back also minimizes hair contact with the face and reduces contact with the pillowcase, which can harbor bacteria, sweat, and dirt. Ladies should also note that if they have many neck wrinkles, they should avoid using high pillows.
