Changing face wash
During the winter, it is recommended to use non-foaming or cream format face wash to cleanse the skin adequately without drying it out.
You should opt for face washes that are made from natural ingredients, as they not only cleanse gently but also improve radiance and balance pH levels. Avoid using face washes containing acne-fighting ingredients such as salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, as they can cause dryness.
Moisturizer
Using a gentle moisturizer can help combat dryness, prevent excess oil production, and improve acne-prone skin.
Opt for “non-comedogenic” moisturizers that contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid or ceramides. Apply moisturizer immediately after bathing for better moisturization.
Don’t forget sunscreen
Using sunscreen not only helps prevent sunburn but also protects the skin from premature aging, hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and dark spots.
Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. Reapply sunscreen 2-3 times a day and prioritize products that offer both protection and moisturization.
Stay hydrated
One of the main causes of winter acne is dehydrated and dry skin. Ensure you drink enough water daily to keep your skin hydrated from within. Also, limit your consumption of coffee and caffeinated beverages, as they can contribute to dryness, flaking, and acne breakout.
Avoid the following when caring for winter acne-prone skin:
Avoid using oily skincare products, as they can exacerbate acne.
Limit the consumption of sugary foods and dairy products.
Avoid taking long hot showers. Warm water is better for acne-prone skin.
Avoid using scented skincare products or fragrances, as they can cause skin irritation.
Avoid using thick moisturizers. Opt for lightweight moisturizers and apply multiple layers for better moisturization without clogging pores.
To prevent moisture loss, dry skin tends to produce excess sebum, leading to more acne. Consult a dermatologist for suitable treatment methods and products. Additionally, maintaining a healthy diet and regular exercise can support overall skin health, especially for acne-prone skin. Avoid popping pimples with hands and manage prolonged stress levels.
