Is dry shampoo as good for hair as they say? Can it replace hair oil?

Using talcum powder or dry shampoos for greasy hair should only be considered as a temporary solution.

Baby powder has two main ingredients: talcum powder and a type of cornstarch. Talcum powder is a mineral clay with water-absorbing properties. Some people also use baby powder to combat greasy hair. Thanks to its highly effective moisture-absorbing ability, baby powder can eliminate excess oil on the hair.

However, using baby powder, along with other dry shampoos for greasy hair, should only be considered as a temporary solution. Excessive use of baby powder can strip the scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness. Leaving too much baby powder on the scalp and hair for an extended period can cause dandruff and make the scalp itchy and uncomfortable.

Tips for using baby powder for greasy hair:

– Divide your hair into 4 sections or more.

– Pour baby powder into the palm of your hand and apply it to the roots of each section. Start from the crown of your head and move towards the back of your neck.

– After applying the powder to the entire root area, lean forward and push the hair forward. Then, use your fingers or a wide-toothed comb to gently massage the excess powder out of the hair.

Note that uneven application of the baby powder to the roots may result in some areas of the hair not absorbing oil and still appearing greasy. Alternatively, you can use a makeup sponge to apply baby powder to the roots of your hair.

In addition to using baby powder, it is also important to note that frequent hair washing is not necessarily beneficial as it can strip away the natural oils that keep the hair shiny, smooth, and healthy. When washing your hair, use an adequate amount of shampoo and remember to perform a gentle and thorough massage. Avoid scratching or vigorously rubbing your scalp as this can stimulate excessive oil production.

Conditioner can cause oil build-up, making the hair greasy faster, so it is recommended to only apply conditioner to the ends of the hair to nourish them without making them dry and stiff.

Another essential habit is to keep your pillowcase and sheets clean to minimize the transfer of excess oil from your face and hair.
