Why Ferment Coconut Water?
Coconut water contains natural sugars (which have immense benefits when fermented) that are beneficial for providing a great energy boost and multiple health benefits. The idea behind fermenting coconut water is that after it has been fermented, the potential benefits are immense and can make your skin and hair super healthy. Fermented coconut water has a slightly sour, sweet, and fizzy taste. It has the added benefits of probiotics and is very advantageous in aiding digestion, cleansing the liver, flattening the tummy, and providing superior hydration compared to raw coconut water, leading to healthier hair, and more.
The high probiotic content of kefir makes it an ideal ingredient in skin and hair care formulations.
It helps you eliminate toxins that can be harmful to your skin. By aiding digestion, probiotics help enhance the absorption of vitamins and minerals more efficiently, thereby helping the skin achieve a youthful glow and reducing signs of aging. And when it comes to hair, kefir thoroughly cleanses the scalp and soothes scalp inflammation. It also helps fight dandruff and promotes hair growth. Kefir is very beneficial in moisturizing the scalp and is known to have a hair loss prevention effect, adding volume, shine, and preventing split ends. Dairy products like kefir milk are useful in moisturizing the scalp.
Benefits of Coconut Water
The benefits of coconut water for hair and skin are abundant and amazing. It contains powerful antibacterial lauric acid. It helps protect against skin infections, fights acne, hydrates the skin, and restores moisture by nourishing the skin as it contains various sugars and amino acids. When it comes to hair, coconut helps reduce hair fall, treats dandruff, dry scalp, and remedies frizzy hair.
What You’ll Need:
3 cups of coconut water
1 to 2 tablespoons of Kefir
1 to 2 tablespoons of Kefir milk grains
Yogurt (optional)
Directions:
To prepare this fermented coconut water, take 3 cups of pure fresh coconut water and add an equal amount of kefir grains and milk kefir grains (culture). You may also add yogurt. Mix well and let it ferment for 2 to 4 days in a warm place. During this time, the bacteria in the culture will feed on the sugars in the coconut water and help develop beneficial probiotics with a much milder sweetness compared to the initial coconut water.
This fermented coconut water can also be prepared in a different way by preserving 1 to 2 tablespoons of this fermented coconut water and adding it to fresh tender coconut water and letting it ferment. Give it a very good mix. This method eliminates the need for using kefir and kefir milk grains for future fermentation. After 2 to 4 days, filter the soaked mixture and transfer it into a spray bottle and spray all over the scalp. Gently massage the scalp and put on a shower cap. Leave it on for 2 hours and then continue shampooing with a mild shampoo.
In case you want to apply it to your skin, store it in a dropper bottle or spray bottle and use it as a face mask and wash it off after 15 minutes. Continue with your favorite moisturizer.
