In the entertainment industry, female stars often have to bleach, dye, and style their hair, but some manage to maintain thick and lustrous locks. A prime example is Fan Bingbing.
Fan Bingbing’s porcelain skin and thick, sleek black hair enhance her exquisite beauty.
Over the years, her hair has remained consistently gorgeous and sleek.
Fan Bingbing stands out not only for her porcelain skin but also for her signature black, thick, and shiny hair. To maintain her hair’s beauty, Fan Bingbing has developed her own set of hair care routines, especially when it comes to washing it. The following are Fan Bingbing’s five steps to achieving thick and healthy hair:
Step 1: Apply Conditioner Before Shampooing
Fan Bingbing shared that before shampooing, she applies a generous amount of conditioner to her dry hair to make it softer and easier to manage. She then leaves it on for about 10 minutes before rinsing it out with water.
Occasionally, Fan Bingbing also uses a hair mask before shampooing. She first pours a hair mask specifically for the hair and scalp into a bowl and adds a small amount of conditioner, coconut oil, and whisking it until it turns into a milkshake-like consistency. She then applies it from the mid-length to the ends of her hair and leaves it on for 1-2 hours before rinsing it out.
This step effectively hydrates the hair, giving it a bouncy and glossy appearance. Girls who wish to have thicker hair can also follow this method. Just remember not to apply the hair mask to the scalp to avoid making the hair look greasy.

Step 2: Create Shampoo Lather in Your Hands
The next step is to start washing your hair. First, pour shampoo into your hands and create a rich lather. Use your fingertips to massage and cleanse your scalp gently. After massaging your scalp, rinse by pressing and squeezing your hair instead of scratching it directly, as this can easily damage your hair’s cuticles.
Fan Bingbing also uses a scalp massage comb to brush her hair from the nape of her neck to the top of her head. This step not only stimulates blood circulation but also enhances the cleansing of the scalp.
Step 3: Use a Silicon-Free Conditioner
After thoroughly rinsing out the shampoo, apply a silicon-free conditioner (which is less likely to damage the scalp and hair) to the lengths and ends of your hair and leave it on for 5 to 6 minutes before rinsing it out. For those with thin and soft hair, avoid applying conditioner to the scalp and focus only on the mid-length to the ends of your hair to prevent hair loss.
Fan Bingbing prefers to use a silicon-free conditioner to minimize scalp and hair damage.
Step 4: Pat Hair Dry Gently
After washing your hair, gently wrap it in a towel and pat it dry to remove excess water. Avoid rubbing or wringing your hair to prevent damage.
Step 5: Blow-dry Your Hair
The final step is to blow-dry your hair. According to Fan Bingbing, many people are lazy to move the hairdryer around when drying their hair, but focusing the heat on one spot can damage the hair. Therefore, she recommends continuously shaking the hairdryer while drying to evenly distribute the heat to all sections of the hair.
Once the hair is dry and only slightly damp, Fan Bingbing applies a scalp essence to provide essential nutrients to the scalp. She then gently presses the ends of her hair with her fingertips to increase moisture.
Thanks to her meticulous hair care routine, from washing to drying, Fan Bingbing’s hair always looks thick, shiny, and healthy.
