Font errors in Word are a situation that surely everyone will encounter when working with the Microsoft Word operating system in the process of editing text, downloading documents from the internet, or copying data from another computer. FPT Shop will share effective and fast ways to fix font errors in Word to you.
What are the causes of font errors in Word?
Word is increasingly being used more frequently as a word processing software. However, in the process of using it, we often encounter font errors with signs such as texts being encoded into strange characters, spelling errors, or missing words. Although this situation is not uncommon, few people know how to quickly and effectively fix it. That is why it is important to understand the causes of font errors in Word in order to find ways to handle them.
Font errors in Word can be caused by the following reasons:
- Downloading documents from the internet: In the Microsoft Word software, there are only a few default font sets that support Vietnamese, such as Times New Roman, Calibri, or Arial. Therefore, if users download a document from sources that use a different font set than the three fonts mentioned above, a font error will occur.
- The computer is not integrated with the desired font set: The writer can use any font type when composing a document. However, if the font type you want to use is not available on the computer, the characters cannot be displayed correctly, resulting in a font error.
- Copying data from another computer: Copying data from another computer is not unfamiliar in the learning or working process nowadays, but if the data you copy is not compatible with the computer, it can also cause font errors.
In addition, different versions of Word can also cause font errors. When you compose a document in Word 2010, for example, but send it to another device that only has Word 2007, the text of the document will be encoded and the characters will be incorrect.
How to fix font errors in Word

How to fix font errors in Word with the Unikey application
Instead of having to install a lot of new fonts, we can convert the document to a basic font form available on the computer using the Unikey application. This is the most common, simple, and useful way to fix font errors.
Step 1: Open the document with font errors > Press the shortcut key Ctrl +A to select the entire text with font errors > Press the shortcut key Ctrl + C or right-click to copy the text.
Step 2: Open the Unikey Toolkit by pressing the shortcut key Ctrl + Shift + F6 or right-click and select Unikey on the taskbar, then choose Toolkit (Ctrl + F6)
Step 3: When the Unikey Toolkit window appears, in the source section, select the TCVN3 (ABC) table and the purpose will be Unicode.
Step 4: Click Convert. When the screen displays a window with the message “Successfully converted RTF clipboard”, the conversion is successful. Press OK. If the message “Cannot read clipboard” appears, it means you have not copied the text with font errors before converting it and you need to redo the process.
Step 5: Go back to the document page you copied, press the shortcut key Ctrl + V.
