Resumption of the Vietnam-China International Train Service

After a 5-year hiatus, the first Vietnam-China international train arrived at Dong Dang station in Lang Son province on the night of May 25, reaching Gia Lam station in Hanoi early in the morning on May 26.

Vietnam Railways (VNR) shared that the train, bearing the hopes of enhanced economic cooperation and tourism between the two countries, has finally resumed its operation.

Mr. Hoang Gia Khanh, the General Director of VNR, warmly welcomed the first passengers arriving in Vietnam on this historic journey.

The immigration procedures for the passengers on the Vietnam-China train were carried out smoothly and efficiently.

The train’s interior is designed with a modern and comfortable ambiance, catering to the needs of tourists opting for a railway journey.

According to VNR, the resumption of the international train service between Vietnam and China aims to boost economic cooperation and tourism while also improving the utilization of the railway infrastructure.

Following this inaugural journey, two trains, MR1 and MR2, will operate daily between Gia Lam station in Vietnam and Nanning in China. MR1 will depart from Gia Lam at 21:20 and arrive in Nanning at 10:06 the next day.

As for the return journey, MR2 will leave Nanning at 18:05 and reach Gia Lam at 05:30 the next morning. Passengers will complete their immigration procedures at Dong Dang station in Vietnam and Pingxiang in China’s Guangxi province.

Starting from May 27, a direct train service will be available from Gia Lam to Beijing and vice versa. Passengers can also purchase tickets to a third country via the international train stations in China.

Currently, VNR is selling international train tickets directly at the following stations: Hanoi, Gia Lam, Bac Giang, and Dong Dang.

Ticket prices for the Hanoi-Nanning route are VND 1 million one way, while the Hanoi-Beijing route costs nearly VND 9.4 million one way. Children under 4 years old travel for free, and those between 4 and 12 years old are eligible for a 50% discount (with each adult accompanying one child). Groups of 6 or more people receive a 25% discount on ticket prices.
