Have you ever noticed the clusters of rubber tires, especially on trucks, with rubber cords attached to them when participating in traffic? What are they for?
The Purpose of Rubber Cord Clusters Tied to Truck Tires
The rubber cord clusters tied to truck tires seem like a very normal phenomenon but have attracted a lot of attention from those who have seen them. Recently, there has been a buzz online about images of black rubber cords hung on large truck rims, along with questions about their purpose. There have been numerous comments and mixed opinions about their exact function, ranging from jokes and satire to in-depth, serious analysis.
Some humorous comments suggest that they are hung there to “make the tires wear out faster so they need to be replaced”. Others jokingly say it’s there “for aesthetics”, or to “keep mosquitoes away and prevent them from biting through the tires.”
Aside from these light-hearted interpretations, some people offer more logical explanations such as “making the ride smoother and increasing tire durability”, “reducing tire heat to prevent tire explosions”, “counteracting the suction effect that pulls objects into the undercarriage at high speeds”, and “drawing attention to the truck to avoid collisions.”
A wide range of opinions and comments have been made, but to find the most accurate answer, we would need to ask the truck drivers who have actually hung these rubber cords. According to a veteran truck driver, the main purpose of hanging rubber cords near the tires is to clean the mud and dirt off the tires.
As we know, long-haul trucks often have to go through construction sites and are bound to pick up mud and debris. To address this issue, drivers came up with the idea of tying rubber cords to clean the tires before entering urban areas and to make it easier for mechanics to inspect the tires’ technical parameters.
Additionally, according to Section C, Clause 2, Article 20 of Decree No. 46/2016/NĐ-CP, drivers can be fined between 1,000,000 and 3,000,000 VND if they allow mud, soil, sand, raw materials, or other waste to fall onto roads, endangering traffic safety and environmental hygiene.
This simple and inexpensive method of hanging rubber cords has proven to be highly effective and beneficial for truck drivers.
What should drivers pay attention to when driving long distances with a truck?
+ Don’t tailgate in the rain
+ Don’t change lanes without signaling or looking
+ Don’t drive parallel to other vehicles
+ Accelerate and decelerate at the right time and under the right circumstances
+ Don’t stop abruptly for breaks
+ Always observe your surroundings when merging
+ Driving slowly does not always mean safer
+ When overtaking a motorcycle going in the same direction, honk from a distance to give the motorcyclist a heads-up.
