The village renowned for its beautiful women is Nha Man, located in Tan Nhuan Dong, Chau Thanh district, Dong Thap province. This land is the birthplace of girls with a gentle, graceful, and elegant beauty. Many of them are descendants of concubines from ancient times. The origin of this story dates back about 250 years ago when Lord Nguyen Anh, fleeing from Nguyen Hue’s army, had to abandon his hundreds of concubines in this area. These women were chosen for their exceptional beauty and became the wives of local men, settling in Nha Man village.

The descendants of these women inherited their ancestors’ beauty, enhanced by the favorable natural conditions of the region. Nestled between the Tien and Hau rivers, the village enjoys a pleasant and cool climate, contributing to the radiant beauty of its female inhabitants.

Folklore even includes a proverb: “No chicken compares to Cao Lanh chicken, and no girl compares to Nha Man girl.”

Today, the image of Nha Man girls wearing conical hats and carrying baskets to the market is less common. Many have left their hometown to pursue education and careers in cities, so visitors are less likely to encounter the same abundance of beauties as in the past.

The Mekong Delta has long been a region that produced many concubines and queens during Vietnam’s feudal dynasties. The remarkable beauty of the women from this region often caught the attention of royalty. Even the last king of the Nguyen Dynasty chose his concubines from the south, following the preference of his predecessors.

Historical researchers explain that the Mekong Delta was one of the earliest settled regions in Vietnam, attracting many landowners and officials. As a result, during the selection of concubines, these individuals would promote their daughters to become the king’s women.

To this day, the beauty of Mekong Delta women is celebrated. One can easily encounter women from this region with delicate features, sweet voices, and gentle, soft personalities that captivate others.
