Turning on the air conditioner at 28 degrees at night, thinking it saves electricity, turns out to be a mistake: This is the appropriate temperature, fix it immediately.

What is the optimal temperature to set the thermostat for energy efficiency and cost savings?

Many people usually set the air conditioner temperature above 28 degrees, but some people lower it to 26 degrees at night in order to save electricity.

There are different opinions that setting the air conditioner above 28 degrees Celsius at night will help save a lot of electricity. However, this is not entirely true.

According to some recommendations, the suitable temperature range for air conditioning is from 24 to 28 degrees Celsius. This range ensures stable operation of the air conditioner and provides comfort without a significant difference compared to the outdoor temperature in Vietnam. It is best to set the air conditioner at a moderate cooling level, not too cold, as it can affect health and increase energy consumption.

Note that the temperature should not be set below 20 degrees Celsius. A large temperature difference between the inside and outside of the room can be harmful to health.

In addition, there are some things to consider when using air conditioning:

Use sleep mode or schedule the air conditioner to turn off overnight

Most modern air conditioners are equipped with sleep mode, which automatically adjusts the temperature to a suitable level during the night when the outdoor temperature drops. This ensures comfortable and restful sleep for users.

If your air conditioner does not have this feature, you can calculate and schedule the machine to turn off during the night to provide comfort during sleep and effectively save electricity.

Choose an air conditioner with the right capacity

You need to calculate the suitable capacity of the air conditioner based on the room size in order to choose an air conditioner that can cool effectively and save energy during operation. Oversized capacity will result in waste, while undersized capacity will not guarantee sufficient cooling. An air conditioner with the right capacity also ensures stable operation and durability over time.

Choose the proper location for the air conditioner

If possible, install the indoor unit of the air conditioner in the middle of the room to ensure even distribution of cold air throughout the space. Avoid installing it in locations that can cause cold air loss, such as near doors or windows.

The outdoor unit should be shielded and placed in a shaded area to avoid direct sunlight. The minimum distance between the indoor and outdoor units should be 3 meters, and the maximum should be 15 meters to allow smooth circulation of gas.

Choose an inverter air conditioner if you frequently use air conditioning

An inverter air conditioner uses inverter technology to operate stably and save energy more efficiently. With an inverter air conditioner, when the cooling capacity is sufficient, the compressor will slow down, limiting energy waste and maintaining stable temperature.

If you have a need for frequent air conditioning usage and the ability to afford it, it is advisable to choose an inverter air conditioner to save on operating costs in the long run.

Avoid constant switching on and off of the air conditioner

You should not turn off the machine when you feel the desired degree of coldness and turn it back on when it becomes hot again. This will cause the machine to restart with high power consumption and cool the room from the beginning, resulting in higher energy consumption and reduced lifespan.

Most air conditioners will operate at a low power level once the room has reached the set temperature, so there is no need to worry too much. If it feels too cold, you can increase the temperature instead of turning off and on again.

Turn off the air conditioner 30 minutes before leaving

30 minutes is enough time for you to still feel comfortable and not experience a significant change in room temperature. Therefore, if you do not need to use the air conditioner, prepare to leave, and turn it off about 30 minutes before leaving to maximize the remaining cold air in the room.

Regularly clean and maintain the air conditioner

An air conditioner that has been in operation for a long time will accumulate dust and may require repair or replacement of parts. Regular cleaning and maintenance help your air conditioner cool quickly, operate stably, ensure durability, and save electricity.
