What are UV rays? Are UV rays dangerous?
UV rays (Ultraviolet) also known as ultraviolet rays, ultraviolet rays are derived from sunlight, that is, there is UV light in the sun. There are currently 3 different types of UV rays: UVA, UVB and UVC.
In particular, UVB rays are largely reflected by the ozone layer and UVC rays will be blocked by almost 100%. Therefore, up to 99% of ultraviolet rays reaching the ground are in the group of UVA rays, a small part of UVB.
UV rays also cause of harmful effects to the skin if exposed for a long time such as sunburn, heatstroke, aging, or even an increased risk of skin cancer.
What is the UV index? Why do we need to know the UV index?
The UV index (UV index) is an international standard measurement of the strength of ultraviolet rays from the sun. The higher the index, the more dangerous, the details are as follows:
When you know the ultraviolet (UV) radiation index, you will be proactive in taking preventive measures to protect your personal health. Especially in tropical countries like Vietnam, it is necessary and advisable to know the daily UV index.
Wearing sunglasses helps you prevent harmful UV rays from entering your eyes and the skin around your eyes.
How to see the UV index right on your phone
Step 1: Download the UVLens application (the application to view the real-time UV index) according to the following link:
Step 2: Open the newly installed UVLens application, now the phone will ask you for permission (location access), tap Allow.
Then click Get Start to start the application.
Step 3: The main interface of the application will provide you with basic information such as:
- UV index and warning level.
For the time I just checked (12 o’clock on August 16, 2019, in Ho Chi Minh City), the current UV index is 13, comparing with the detailed table above, we have the following recommendations:
UV Index 13 (purple): Extremely high UV damage, you need to apply SPF 30+ sunscreen, wear (especially sunglasses with UV protection), a long shirt with long sleeves, and pants if going out in the sun.
- Next day’s UV index forecast, drag this slider to the right to use.
In addition to the basic parameters, you can tweak a few other features by clicking Settings (gear icon).
Here you can activate the switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit in the Temperature Units section. Or display the UV index on the interface by activating the UV Index.
Interface when turning UV index on or off.
Thus, we have sent you important information about the ultraviolet (UV) index, its harmful effects, and how to prevent UV rays. If you know more information about UV, please share it with everyone you know!
