The weight of financial responsibilities and childcare rested on my shoulders. I had complained many times about life being unfair to me, but because I loved my husband and our six-year-old daughter, I persevered through the hardships, shouldered everything, and now, things are finally more stable.
I still work in an office to earn money, and my daughter has started first grade. Leaving my husband at home alone wouldn’t be ideal, so I decided to hire a housekeeper to help out. With her support, I can rest assured while at work, and things are much easier now as taking care of a paralyzed husband and a child is extremely challenging.

Yesterday, on the weekend, I decided to work overtime to earn some extra money. My daughter and husband were at home with the housekeeper, who would take care of meals and everything. Things would have been normal until I forgot something and had to go home to get it. When I opened the door and stepped inside, I didn’t see anyone.
I guessed that the housekeeper had gone to the market next door, and my daughter was playing in the room with her dad. However, when I checked the bedroom and slightly opened the door, the scene inside made me freeze.
My six-year-old child somehow understood the situation in a heart-wrenching way. She was skillfully massaging her father, asking:
– Dad! Are you feeling better now? Will I be able to help you get better by doing this? I want you to get well so you can take me to school like the other kids’ dads. I also don’t want to see Mom cry anymore. I’ve noticed a few times that after Mom comes out of your room, she cries. I’m sure she also wants you to get better, just like me.
Her innocent and immature words were like a knife to my heart, causing unbearable pain. Hearing this, my husband remained silent, his eyes reddening. This scene will forever be etched in my memory.

As a mother, I understand how disadvantaged my child is because of her father’s condition. That’s why, over the years, I’ve tried my best to compensate and make up for it in every way possible. But no matter what I do, I know I can’t fill the void of her father’s misfortune and absence. If it weren’t for this unfortunate event, my husband would have been a perfect father in her eyes by now.
He would have been able to do everything that other fathers can do. Although it’s heartbreaking, the truth remains, and all I can do now is strive even harder to provide my daughter with the best life possible, effectively becoming both a mother and a father to her.
To all the mothers out there who may be in a similar situation, I hope you find the strength to be resilient and persevere through adversity for the sake of your children’s future.
Confession from reader diempham…@mail.com
In life, not all families can maintain stability, and when faced with challenges or adversity, it’s inevitable that children may not receive perfect care from both parents. In such situations, the most important thing is to ensure that children still feel loved and safe.
Parents or caregivers need to create a warm and supportive environment, helping children understand that despite the difficulties, love and care are always present. Open communication with children about family issues is also essential, ensuring they don’t feel lonely or alienated.
Additionally, families can seek support from grandparents, relatives, or social organizations to ensure the children are well taken care of. Most importantly, the resilience and optimism demonstrated by adults will serve as a role model for children, teaching them how to overcome challenges and grow as individuals.
Through these adversities, children can learn valuable lessons about strength and compassion, shaping their positive values and outlook on life.
