According to a new study published in Express, the length of your fingers can reflect a person’s health. The study, which was published in the American Journal of Human Biology, showed that the length of your fingers can predict your lifespan.
Scientists conducted a study called “Finger Length Ratio and Longevity”. This study focused on comparing the finger length ratio of a long-lived group and a non-long-lived group.
The participants in the study were divided into 3 groups:
Group 1: Index finger longer than ring finger
Group 2: Index finger equal to ring finger
Group 3: Index finger shorter than ring finger
The research results showed that people in Group 1 had a shorter lifespan. Most of the long-lived individuals were in Group 3.
Through the study, scientists also found that people with a longer index finger than ring finger are more likely to develop prostate cancer. This conclusion was drawn after comparing the fingers of 1,500 prostate cancer patients and 3,000 healthy men.
Professor Ros Eeles, a member of the research team, stated that besides determining lifespan, this comparison could be used as a simple test to assess the risk of prostate cancer.
This study has led scientists to believe that finger length can help screen individuals at risk of prostate cancer, in combination with other factors such as family history or genetic testing, for better screening.
To improve health, scientists also recommend following these 5 guidelines for a longer lifespan:
Use low glycemic index foods, anti-inflammatory diet
Foods with a glycemic index below 40 are a good choice to reduce insulin levels and promote fat loss while preserving muscle mass. Regularly supplement your diet with green vegetables and limit high glycemic index foods such as rice, bread, and pasta. You should also consume a moderate amount of healthy fats from olive oil, butter, nuts, and avocados to aid in fat burning. To support muscle building, include an adequate amount of protein from lean meat and fish.
Engage in regular exercise
As we age, our bodies naturally lose muscle mass. Therefore, exercising is a good way to maintain and increase muscle mass. Here are 5 exercises you can consider:
– Squats
– Bench Press
– Deadlift
– Overhead press
– Pull-up/chin-up
These exercises should be done with a trainer. If you are unable to perform these exercises, try to be more active by climbing stairs, walking, and avoiding prolonged sitting.
Monitor blood pressure regularly
Having a blood pressure monitor and diabetes test kit at home will help you better monitor your health. Close blood pressure control is crucial for maintaining good health. Neglecting this can increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Blood pressure is becoming a serious issue for many people, so be mindful of it. The best way to maintain healthy blood pressure is through a clean diet, regular exercise, and minimizing stress.
Get regular blood tests
As our bodies age, inflammation increases, leading to a higher susceptibility to illness. Regular blood tests and check-ups will help you make timely adjustments to ensure good health.
Manage stress
Stress is a serious risk to health, as it can lead to high blood pressure, insulin resistance or prediabetes, and low testosterone levels. Ultimately, it affects energy levels, libido, and body functions. Engaging in activities such as yoga, meditation, and steam baths can help. However, more importantly, you need to schedule proper rest and work time.
