While burning mosquito coils or using insecticides can quickly repel mosquitoes, these methods are not ideal for air quality and our health, especially in homes with elderly and young children. Today, I want to share with you a simple tip to keep those pesky mosquitoes at bay.
First, take an empty plastic bottle and cut it in half, ensuring that the top portion is only about ⅓ of the bottle. Make sure the bottle is clean and free from any food residue or unpleasant odors.
Next, add some fruit peels into the bottle. Tear them into small pieces before placing them inside. You don’t need a lot, just about 2-3 pieces of fruit peel will do.
Then, sprinkle a small amount of sugar over the fruit peels. Both the sugar and the peels have a sweet scent that can attract mosquitoes. However, be careful not to add too much sugar, as it might attract other insects as well. Just a teaspoon should be enough.
Additionally, you can add a small amount of baking soda to enhance the effectiveness of the bait. Finally, pour in the prepared Coca-Cola into the mixture. Coca-Cola contains sugar and carbon dioxide, which can also lure mosquitoes. Give the mixture a good stir, and you’ll have yourself a mosquito-attracting concoction.
For the next step, attach the mouth of the water bottle to the body, creating a funnel-like structure. This setup will serve as a trap, luring mosquitoes in without giving them a chance to escape.
You can place this trap near your bed, in a corner of the room, or anywhere you please. With this “sweet” trap, mosquitoes will be drawn in and trapped.
This method is not only simple and easy to execute, but it’s also environmentally friendly. It helps you avoid the potential health and air quality issues associated with chemical insecticides. However, remember to replace the mosquito-repelling solution periodically to maintain its effectiveness.
Additionally, here are some other natural mosquito-repelling methods you can try:
– Burn coffee grounds: Place coffee grounds on a piece of foil or in an empty can and burn them. Place these at the corners of your house, under your bed, etc. If you have a large house, you can use 3-4 burning chafing dishes. The smell will keep mosquitoes away. You can also use mugwort, dried orange, or tangerine peels. Remember to keep the windows open for ventilation.
– Plant mosquito-repelling plants: Mosquitoes detest the scent of herbs like basil, rosemary, lavender, marigolds, sunflowers, lemongrass, and garlic. Plant these around your house to keep mosquitoes at bay. Alternatively, you can burn essential oils with these scents inside your home.
– Use wind oil: Apply wind oil directly to your skin or leave the bottle open in a well-ventilated area. You can also apply a small amount to a fan, and the scent will keep mosquitoes away.
