In July 1946, the international organization of progressive educators was established in Paris, France, called FISE (Fédertion International Syndicale des Enseignants – International Federation of Education Unions). In July 1953, the Vietnam Education Union joined this international educational organization.
During the event held in Warsaw, Poland from August 26th to 30th, 1975, the Vietnam Education Union decided to designate November 20th, 1958 as “International Charter Day for Teachers,” and this day was celebrated for the first time in the North and the liberated areas of the South in the following years.
On September 28th, 1982, the Council of Ministers (now the Government) issued Decision No. 167-HĐBT establishing November 20th as the annual holiday called “Vietnamese Teacher’s Day.”
