The Covid-19 pandemic in Vietnam has been experiencing complex and unpredictable developments, with multiple sources of infection, variant strains, and rapid community transmission across the country. Getting vaccinated against Covid-19 helps build herd immunity and put an end to the pandemic, allowing life to return to normal. However, not everyone can receive this vaccine, especially those who have previously had Covid. Let’s find out more in the following article.
1 Do People Who Had Covid Need to Get the Covid-19 Vaccine?
Dr. Onyema Ogbuagu, infectious disease specialist at Yale School of Medicine, asserts that, “regardless of how mild or severe your Covid case was, you should get vaccinated at some point.”
Research has found that antibodies produced by a natural Covid infection offer protection for at least a few months. However, everyone is still susceptible to reinfection as these antibodies wane over time. Therefore, individuals with a history of Covid infection should get the Covid-19 vaccine.

2 When Can People Who Had Covid Get the Covid-19 Vaccine?
The French Public Health Authority (HAS) indicates that those with a history of Covid-19 infection are protected for at least three months due to post-infection immunity. Hence, they should wait for at least three months or longer before getting the Covid-19 vaccine. HAS recommends that the vaccine be administered within six months of infection.
The Ministry of Health also advises that individuals who had Covid wait for at least six months before getting vaccinated against Covid-19.
Consequently, while individuals with a history of Covid infection should get the Covid-19 vaccine, they must wait for at least six months after recovery before doing so.
