The phrase that worries many mothers the most is always “sick home,” “sick child”. But did you know that there are many objects in our homes that are hidden sources of dust and harmful bacteria to our bodies? Although they may look clean on the outside, you might think “it looks clean, so it’s probably not dirty” and forget to clean them. But this is a misconception because the types of dirt and bacteria are too small for us to see with the naked eye. Let’s see what objects are in your home like the ones below that we should clean daily.
1. Cloth scraps
Multi-purpose kitchen towels used to wipe off leftover food, grease stains, or even our hands, so it’s understandable that it accumulates dust everywhere. Therefore, after each use, the towel should be washed immediately to keep it clean and fresh. On the other hand, hand towels in the bathroom should also be changed and washed every 2 days. If the house has a lot of people, it should be replaced daily.
2. Keys
No matter how well you wash your hands, you can’t escape the dust on the keys. Think about how we use keys every day: put them on the floor, put them in your pocket, or hold them when your hands are covered in food… All your actions can cause a large buildup of dirt and bacteria, so after each use, it’s best to wipe the keys with an antibacterial solution.
3. Tiles in the bathroom
The bathroom is a place with more dirt and bacteria than any other room in the house, so we need to clean it regularly. Especially if the bathroom walls are tiled, they need to be cleaned daily. By spraying water on the wall and wiping it dry with a cloth after the last use of the day, this prevents the formation of bacteria, mold, and other impurities.
4. Sponge
Similar to multi-purpose kitchen towels that should be cleaned daily, multi-purpose sponges should also be. Especially for dishwashing sponges. Because every time you wash dishes, dirt from the dishes will stick and accumulate in the sponge a lot, just washing with water is not enough to get rid of all those impurities. It’s best to wash the sponge thoroughly with a cleaning agent, then put it in the microwave for 2-3 minutes at the lowest temperature to kill all the bacteria.
5. Sink
Whether it’s a kitchen sink, a bathroom sink, or a bathtub, it’s also an area full of dust and bacteria. Especially in corners or drains, bacteria can be splattered around the sink that we can’t see with the naked eye. Therefore, after the last use of the day, you should clean the sink inside and the surrounding area.
6. Soaking dishes
After finishing eating, never leave dirty dishes in the sink because doing so will make the dishes dirtier and accumulate more bacteria. Therefore, set a rule for yourself and your family that: Whenever you finish eating, immediately get up and wash the dishes, do not soak them overnight.
7. Coffee Maker
If you have to use a coffee maker every day, you should clean it carefully because inside the device could be full of moisture, moldy odor, or oil and leftover coffee beans. If you don’t want to drink coffee with these impurities, you should clean it after each use. By disassembling each tool, washing and drying, then cleaning it thoroughly at the end of the week.
8. Cutting Board
The cutting board is a kitchen utensil that is prone to dirt and bacterial buildup because every time you chop food, some leftover food may get stuck in those grooves. And if you neglect to clean it every day, you can be sure that dust, germs, and bacteria will quickly accumulate. Simple way to clean it: Soak the cutting board in a mixture of equal amounts of water and vinegar for 2 minutes, or mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with ½ liter of hot water and pour it on the surface of the board for 5-10 minutes, then rinse with clean water and you’re done.
9. Makeup Brushes and Sponges
The face is considered an important part of the body, especially for women. Therefore, never let dirty brushes, sponges touch your face every day as they can cause skin infections, acne formation… A good way after applying makeup is to wash them with soap and warm water every day to remove dirt.
