The weather will see the arrival of cold air for the upcoming three days from April 8 – 10 as reported by the experts of National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, particularly in Hanoi and neighboring areas. There will be cloudiness, drizzle and no sunshine.

The aforementioned weather condition poses an inconvenience for several households when it comes to hanging and drying clothes. The latest washing machines, however, possess a certain button that can eliminate such inconvenience. Many families utilize their washing machines on a daily basis but stay unaware of this particular feature. Such feature is none other than the air dry function.

What is the air dry function of a washing machine?

Normally, basic washing machines only come with functions such as standard washing, gentle washing, quick washing and spinning. Post the completion of a washing cycle, users must still hang the clothes out to dry or move them to a different drying device to ensure the clothes are completely and optimally dried.

However, the air dry function is now available and incorporated into several modern and latest washing machines. This feature enables the clothes which have already gone through a washing and spinning cycle to be dried to a considerable extent. Thus, reducing the time required for hanging out the clothes for the users.

As per the manufacturing and distribution companies of washing machines, the air dry function utilizes an airflow generated by a jet fan within the appliance. The wind speed at this point can reach up to 300 km/h, allowing for rapid drying of clothes within the washing machine, which takes around 90 minutes for 9-10 kg of clothes.

By virtue of being dried in a stream of air as opposed to a high heat source like that of conventional drying machines or the regular drying function, garments in general or fabric fibers in particular, receive better protection. Throughout the drying process, the formation of creases and shrinkage of fabric on the clothes are minimized to the greatest possible extent.

Below is the method to use the air dry function: After the washing, rinsing, and spinning cycle ends, the user must select the “Air Dry” or “90-minute air dry” button on their washing machine and press start. As the cycle comes to an end, the washing machine will emit a sound to notify the user that it is time to remove the clothes from the appliance. At this point, users simply need to hang the clothes out in the fresh air for a few more hours, after which the clothes will be completely dry regardless of cold or damp weather conditions.

Other measures to help clothes dry quickly

In addition to utilizing the air dry function available in modern washing machines, Cleanpedia – Unilever’s dedicated portal – has provided several suggestions for other measures to help dry clothes faster. The effectiveness of each measure varies. However, they still remain relatively effective and cannot match up to specialized measures.

1. Using a hairdryer

The first measure suggested by Cleanpedia is rather manual, which is making use of a hairdryer. Here’s the method: once the clothes have been washed, wring out excess water to ensure the clothes are thoroughly drained. Then use a hairdryer on the high heat setting, moving it around the garment to dry. This method is considered time-consuming and labor-intensive, and suitable only for a few pieces of clothing as opposed to a large family load.

2. Using fans and air conditioners

Similar to dryers, users can also take advantage of fans to dry clothes more quickly. The ideal measure suggested by many experienced users is to set aside wet clothes in a room, turn on the fan to the highest setting, and close the door. In this way, the clothes will be dried, and the cold air from the fan will not affect other family members.

Apart from fans, air conditioners can also be useful in drying clothes, particularly 2-way air conditioners with heating modes. Users only have to hang clothes in a room with the air conditioner on, after which the clothes will be dried in a matter of hours or overnight.

3. Placing clothes in the fridge

Few people are aware that placing damp or wet clothes in the refrigerator can help dry them quicker. Users are advised to fold the undried clothes, then place them in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. It’s preferable to leave them overnight. The following morning, when the user takes out the clothes, they can simply use an iron to get rid of any lingering cold air.

Aside from these methods utilizing household items, Cleanpedia also offers additional tips for hanging clothes such as hanging them upside down, shaking them vigorously, maintaining a distance between different types of garments and hanging clothes in the morning…
