Dishwashers have become a common household appliance in many homes, effectively cleaning dishes and other kitchen utensils. With just a small amount of detergent and the right washing program, this machine does all the work for you.

By using a dishwasher, you free up your time and energy while also protecting your hands from harmful chemicals. It’s a convenient and efficient way to keep your dishes sparkling clean.

However, some people may encounter issues with their dishwasher, such as dishes not being thoroughly cleaned or having a fishy or chemical odor. To address this problem, Ms. Hoang Phuong Nhung from Hanoi suggests using grapefruit peels as a natural deodorizer.

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t put the grapefruit peels directly into the dishwasher. Instead, blend the peels into a fine powder and make ice cubes with them. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do it:

Step 1: Peel the grapefruit, focusing on the outer layer and avoiding the white pith. Rinse the peels, then cut them into small pieces, approximately three fingers in length.

Step 2: In a blender, combine the peels of one grapefruit with 200ml of water. Blend until the peels are completely broken down and turned into a smooth liquid. This ensures you get the maximum fragrance and prevents any peel residue from clogging the dishwasher’s filter.

Step 3: Pour the blended mixture into an ice cube tray (preferably a flexible silicone one for easier removal). Place the tray in the freezer. Overnight, you’ll have fragrant ice cubes infused with grapefruit essential oil.

Step 4: Store these scented ice cubes in an airtight container and keep them in the freezer.

Step 5: During each wash cycle, place one of these grapefruit essential oil ice cubes in the dishwasher’s cutlery compartment.

“For years, my family has been washing dishes with biological powder (along with salt and organic balls) and adding one of these essential oil ice cubes to the dishwasher. Our dishes always come out spotlessly clean and safe, thanks to these natural methods,” shares Ms. Phuong Nhung.
