1 Bitter Melon’s Acne-Fighting Properties
Bitter Melon’s Acne-Fighting Abilities
Back acne is often caused by a combination of poor hygiene and overactive hormones, leading to clogged pores from excess sebum and dirt. Bitter melon, also known as bitter gourd, contains a compound called Alkaloid, which possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This is why soap made from bitter melon can be so effective in treating back acne if used consistently 2-3 times a week.

The Soap-Making Process
Slowly add 83 grams of NaOH pellets to 166 grams of frozen bitter melon juice, making sure to wear protective gloves during this step.
Preparing the NaOH Solution
Set aside the NaOH solution and create an oil mixture by combining coconut oil, olive oil, soybean oil, and cocoa butter in a bowl. Mix until the cocoa butter melts and the oils are well blended.
Mixing the Oils
While waiting for the NaOH solution to fully dissolve, add a teaspoon of green food coloring to the soybean oil and mix until the color is evenly distributed and there are no lumps.
Adding Color
Pour the dissolved NaOH solution into the oil mixture and use an electric mixer to blend until the mixture turns opaque with a whitish hue. At this stage, add peppermint essential oil to fragrance the soap, along with and for added skin-whitening and smoothing benefits.
Thickening the Soap Solution
Use a flexible silicone mold and slowly pour the soap mixture into it. As you pour, gently tap the mold on the table to remove air bubbles and create a smoother surface.
Pouring the Soap into the Mold
Cut the soap into bars approximately 3-4cm wide for easier use. And there you have it—your very own bitter melon soap for back acne treatment!
