According to Dr. Huynh Tan Vu, a specialist in internal medicine at Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University Hospital, the rate at which alcohol is metabolized depends on various factors such as the amount consumed, alcohol concentration, and duration of consumption.

How quickly alcohol is eliminated from the body also depends on individual factors. Some people may still have detectable levels of alcohol in their blood and breath the morning after a night of drinking, while others may not experience this. Those who are lighter in weight, have certain medical conditions, are fasting, or are occasional drinkers tend to get drunk faster and take longer to metabolize alcohol.

Here are some methods to reduce blood alcohol levels after drinking beer or liquor:

Drink plenty of water: This is a simple yet effective method to help you feel better and accelerate the elimination of alcohol from your bloodstream.

Consume fruits or fruit juices: Fruit juices help detoxify and counteract the effects of alcohol. Alternatively, you can squeeze the juice from a fresh lemon and mix it with water, or simply eat the lemon slices.

Drink pennywort water: Prepare a mixture of 100g of fresh pennywort, 2 lemons, and 1g of salt. Wash the pennywort, chop it finely, and extract the juice. Add the lemon juice and mix well with salt. Drink 150-300ml of this mixture at a time.

Brew tea with dried tangerine peel: In traditional Chinese medicine, dried tangerine peel is known as Chen Pi. Use 30g of dried tangerine peel, roasted and ground, along with 2 sour plums, pitted and chopped. Brew these ingredients with 360ml of water for 30 minutes, then strain the mixture and drink the tea. You can also add ginger for a more potent effect.

Experts advise eating a substantial meal before drinking alcohol and consuming plenty of green vegetables to dilute the alcohol concentration. It is recommended to drink slowly and engage in conversation to reduce the amount of alcohol consumed and exhaled. Slow drinking also lessens the irritation of the mouth, stomach lining, and allows the liver to detoxify and metabolize alcohol more effectively.
