Using cotton towels or toilet paper can be expensive and may not effectively clean glass surfaces, with cotton towels even leaving lint behind. So, how can you achieve the most impeccable glass surfaces? Let’s explore the following tips and tricks together!
1 Using Cornstarch
Apart from its use in baking, cornstarch can also be utilized as a cleaning agent. This is thanks to the protein content in cornstarch, which is particularly effective at removing stubborn dirt and grime from your windows.
You can create your own efficient glass-cleaning solution with cornstarch as the main ingredient. Simply mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 3-4 liters of warm water, along with 1/2 cup of ammonia and 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Transfer this mixture into a spray bottle and shake well before each use. Spray the solution onto a cotton or paper towel and wipe down your windows. Remember to shake the bottle if you notice cornstarch sediment settling at the bottom.
For your reference: This will make cleaning a much faster and easier task.
2 Tip for Polishing Glass with a Rubber Squeegee
With this method, simply soak the rubber squeegee in a bucket of hot water with a few drops of dish soap. Wet the window and start scrubbing away at the stubborn dirt on the glass surface. Soak the squeegee again, and start from the top corner of the window, pushing the squeegee down and wiping the glass in a downward motion. Repeating this process will ensure your windows are left sparkling clean.
3 Using Lemons
Using lemons is another simple, user-friendly, and highly effective method for cleaning mirrors and glass.
Create a mixture of lemon juice from half a lemon, ½ teaspoon of baking soda, and a few drops of dish soap. Transfer this mixture into a spray bottle and spritz it onto the glass or mirror surface. Alternatively, if the mixture is too thick, you can apply it with a sponge instead.
For a simpler lemon-based solution, mix 2 teaspoons of lemon juice with a cup of water and spray it onto the glass, then wipe it down with a soft cloth.
Note that those stubborn stains on your mirrors and glass surfaces are likely due to a lack of regular cleaning. The longer these stains are left untreated, the harder they become to remove. Therefore, it’s important to clean your glass and mirror surfaces frequently. You can opt to clean them with plain water daily and use a specialized glass cleaner once a week.
4 Using Vinegar
In addition to its culinary uses, vinegar is also great for household cleaning, including glass surfaces.
Simply take a bucket of warm water and add a few drops of vinegar. Soak a cloth in this solution, wring it out, and use it to wipe down the glass. As you clean, move the cloth in a circular motion to avoid leaving streaks, and make sure to wipe thoroughly to remove all dirt and stains.
5 Using Nail Polish Remover
The acetone in nail polish remover is excellent for cleaning glass and removing yellow stains. Simply apply a few drops of nail polish remover to the affected area and wipe it down with a dry paper towel.
6 Using White Spirit
White spirit is another easily accessible cleaning agent. Apart from its ability to quench thirst and neutralize fishy odors, it can also be used to clean glass surfaces. The alcohol content in white spirit helps to easily lift dirt and grime from glass. However, its high volatility means that it evaporates quickly, so it’s important to store it carefully. The best way to do this is to use a spray bottle with a tight-fitting lid to prevent evaporation. Simply spray the white spirit onto the glass surface and wipe it down with paper for a spotless finish.
