YouTube channel Rich Rebuilds decided to try the rice dehumidifier trick to save a dead electric car.

Rich Benoit, the owner of Rich Rebuilds, bought a flooded Audi e-tron to test the method.

The Audi electric car, which originally cost $110,000, showed signs of water damage, such as damp and mold on the seats and windows. It is believed that Rich purchased the “total loss” car for about $56,000.

After bringing the car home and attempting to revive the battery with a jump box, Rich’s team discovered numerous issues with various parts of the car, including the battery, power steering assist, ABS brakes, and central electrical system. Overall, the car was a complete write-off.

In order to save the car, Rich and his team built a wooden frame, laid tarps inside, and placed the car inside. They then poured 1.9 tons of expired rice, in an effort to absorb the moisture. The tarp was then tied back down.

A few days later, when they uncovered the car, the miracle had happened – the Audi e-tron started up again, despite the numerous error messages on the dashboard. The initial step was successful, and now Rich’s team will have more work to do in order to fully restore the car.
