In the family, a clock is both an object that indicates time and a decorative item. A clock represents the development of movement. The movement of the clock hands symbolizes the smooth movement of time, the circulation of wealth, glory, and fortune. A clock brings good or bad energy depending on the location where you hang it. According to Feng Shui, there are some positions where you should avoid hanging a clock.
Above the Bed
The bed is where people rest, sleep, and recover energy. When sleeping, you need peace and quiet. Therefore, hanging a clock above the headboard will make your sleep restless and tense. Not only that, hanging a clock above the bed will also make the person lying down feel like the clock might fall down, causing uneasiness and creating negative energy in Feng Shui. Therefore, it is better not to hang a clock directly above the bed.
Hanging a Clock Opposite the Main Door
The main door is the entrance and exit, the place where the God of Wealth is welcomed and good fortune is brought into the house. In Feng Shui, the main door is very important. Hanging a clock opposite the main door blocks the God of Wealth’s way into the house. This is because the Chinese word for clock, “song zhong,” means “the end.” Life needs to develop, prosper, and continue; no one wants it to end. Therefore, you need to hang the clock to one side and avoid hanging it opposite the entrance door.
Hanging a Clock Facing Inward
The living room is the place where the family gathers and attracts wealth. Therefore, the clock should not be hung facing inward but should be hung facing outward to attract positive energy into the house and bring good luck.
Hanging a Clock on the Sofa
Hanging a clock on the sofa also creates a feeling of unease and discomfort, just like hanging it above the headboard. A clock hung on the sofa can also make the person sitting there distracted and have difficulty concentrating when talking, which is not good for the family’s Feng Shui.
Hanging in the White Tiger and Black Tortoise Positions
Clocks run continuously and represent movement that is not still, so they should not be hung in the White Tiger (right) and Black Tortoise (back) positions because these are two positions that require stillness. Hanging a clock here is contradictory and inappropriate. Clocks should be hung in the Red Bird (front), Green Dragon (left) directions, which are considered lucky directions.
Do Not Hang a Dead Clock
If the clock has stopped working, you should take it down and put it away, even if it is a commemorative antique. This is because a clock represents the flow of time and development. Hanging a dead clock in the house brings bad luck and signifies regression. If it is a souvenir or an antique, take it down and put it in a display case.
