1. How to Make Twisted Paper Roses

Common Materials for Making Roses:

  • Crepe paper strips at least 40 cm long
  • Crepe paper
  • Binding thread
  • Thread
  • Tape
  • Cloth tape

Instructions:

Step 1: First, fold the crepe paper diagonally for the first time, folding it over by 1-1.5 cm.

Step 1

Step 2: Continue to fold diagonally, perpendicular to the edge of the paper, with a width of about 2-2.5 cm.

Step 2

Hold the paper with your left hand, and with your right hand, fold the already folded part up.

Step 2

Step 3: Continue to fold the paper down as shown above.

Step 3

Repeat the previous action: hold the paper with your left hand and bend the paper back with your right hand.

Step 3

Continue doing this until you reach the end of the paper strip.

Step 3

Step 4: When you reach the end of the strip, twist and tighten the last edge to prevent the paper from unraveling. You can use candle wax to secure the paper.

From the twisted knot you’ve just made, start rolling the paper strip into a circle, making sure that the twisted edges form the petals of the rose.

Step 4

Step 5: Once you’ve used up the entire strip to form the rose, hold the base tightly and wrap thread or string around it several times, tying it securely to prevent the flower from unraveling.

Step 5

Then, adjust the petals so that they are evenly spaced, bending them slightly to make the flower look more natural.

Step 6: Make the stem. Insert a wire stem directly into the flower’s base.

Use a pen to draw a leaf shape on green crepe paper, then cut it out.

Use light green paper to make the flower’s receptacle. Fold it and cut one end to a point. Cut the receptacle a little longer so that it can cover the entire stem when glued.

Apply some white glue to the receptacle and attach it to the flower’s stem. Then, use wax tape to cover the paper part of the receptacle.

Making the stem

If you’re making a large bouquet and want to expose the stems, wrap them with green ribbon or green crepe paper. If you’re attaching the flower to a basket, you don’t need to do this step as the stems will be covered by the flowers.

Depending on the length of the crepe paper you cut, you can make roses of different sizes. You can be flexible with this step to create a diverse bouquet with both small, tight buds and fully bloomed flowers.

And there you have it—a beautiful twisted crepe paper rose!

How to Make Layered Paper Roses

In this style, the crepe paper petals are carefully layered from the inside out to form a rose.

Materials:

  • In addition to crepe paper, white glue, and thread, you’ll need the following:
  • Wire stems
  • Wire cutters
  • Scissors for shaping the petals

Instructions:

Step 1: Fold a piece of crepe paper in half to form a rectangle. Then, cut a curved shape at one end to create a natural-looking petal.

Step 1

Step 2: Cut a 2 cm slit in the center of each petal to prevent the layers from bunching up when rolled.

Step 2

Step 3: Do the same for the remaining petals, but make the rectangles gradually smaller to create smaller petals. Fold the paper in half, then cut a curved shape at one end.

Step 4: Take a wire stem and bend one end. To make the receptacle a little larger and the inside fuller and rounder, use the leftover paper from cutting the petals. Fold it in half and tie it securely to the bent end of the wire stem. Alternatively, you can use fabric or cotton to stuff the inside and make the receptacle fuller.

Step 4

Step 5: Take the innermost petal from Step 1 and stretch the paper in the middle. When stretching the paper, use only the fleshy part of your thumbs to create a natural-looking curve in the petal, rather than a sharp fold in the middle. This technique will make the flower look more natural.

Step 5

Step 6: Wrap this petal around the tied paper, then use thread to secure it in place.

Step 6

Step 7: For the second and subsequent layers, use smaller petals. When layering the petals, stretch them first, or stretch them after layering. The second layer consists of two petals placed opposite each other, rolled, and tied with thread one by one.

Step 7

To make the remaining layers look neater and the finished flower look tidier, use glue to attach the petals instead of thread. This will also prevent the thread from showing on the outer petals.

Step 8: For the third layer, use three petals. First, stretch the middle of each petal to create a certain amount of fullness, then bend the tips of the petals on one or both sides, or bend them evenly.

Step 8

Overlap the three petals, stacking them one on top of the other, and bend them to follow the shape of the flower. Use white glue to secure them in place.

Step 8

Step 9: For the outermost layer, use five petals. First, stretch the middle of each petal, then bend the tips. Place the five petals one on top of the other and use glue to attach them to the flower.

Step 9

Step 10: Use green crepe paper to make the receptacle. Cut a zig-zag shape at one end.

Step 10

Apply some white glue to the receptacle, place the flower in the center, and pull the sides of the receptacle towards the center. As you pull, adjust the receptacle so that it stays straight. Make sure the length of the receptacle is enough to cover the entire stem and the paper base of the inner petals.

Step 10

And there you have it—a beautiful layered paper rose!
