Onions
The pungent smell of onions is a “horrifying nightmare” for cockroaches. Therefore, using onions to repel them is a method employed by many families. To do this, simply cut a few onions into thin slices and place them in areas frequented by cockroaches, such as cabinet corners, under beds, and in kitchen cabinets. With this method, the cockroaches will quickly have to find a new home.
Leaves
Leaves such as peppermint, bay, and perilla are all effective in eradicating cockroaches. Prepare a handful of these leaves, crush them lightly to release their essential oils (or blend them in a blender), and place them in areas where cockroaches are usually spotted. When these pests catch a whiff of these scents, they will steer clear of your home.
Cucumbers
Here’s a simple method: – Cut off both ends of a cucumber and divide it into 3 or 4 lengthwise slices. – Place these cucumber slices in corners, under beds and cabinets, and other places where cockroaches tend to hide. After a few days, you’ll notice a significant reduction in their presence.
Orange and Tangerine Peels
Another simple and effective way to repel cockroaches is to use orange, tangerine, lemon, or grapefruit peels. These peels have a distinctive aroma that cockroaches find repulsive. Simply dry a handful of these peels and place them in areas where cockroaches are commonly found. Rest assured that after a short while, these pests will be gone for good.
Alum
In addition to the above methods, you can also use alum to get rid of cockroaches. Here’s how:
– Step 1: Dissolve a sufficient amount of alum in a bowl of boiling water, then stir until the alum is fully dissolved.
– Step 2: Using a cloth, dip it into the alum solution and wipe down surfaces such as floors, kitchen counters, and areas where cockroaches tend to pass through. As the surface dries, the alum will seep into the cracks of the tiles, leaving behind a distinctive scent. This scent will deter cockroaches, making them scurry away from your home.
