Mr. Mistry knew that a portion of his tree overhung his neighbor’s property by about a meter, and he promised to trim it and net it to prevent the birds from causing any nuisance. However, the neighbors were not amenable to this solution.
“We were bewildered and begged them not to cut down the tree, but they were determined,” Mr. Mistry lamented, recalling the moment when the 25-year-old pine tree was destroyed.
In late June of that year, the neighbor hired a tree surgeon to trim half of the canopy, which encroached on their land.

The image of the tree was later posted on social media with the caption: “A little bit of traditional English pettiness has been exposed.” The image and the account that posted it were later deleted, but social media users continued to spread the photo like wildfire, and someone even sent it to a TV channel.
Mr. Mistry’s daughter said that because of the photo, her family suddenly found themselves famous across social media platforms. Many people even walked their dogs via a different route so they could pass by Mr. Mistry’s house and admire the tree.
Although the incident happened three years ago, locals say that curious tourists still flock to the area to catch a glimpse of the “sawed-in-half” tree.

The tree even earned a spot as a tourist attraction on Google Maps, and quite a few tourists have left reviews.
“The tree was halved due to a dispute between two neighbors. The story made the news, and it’s quite interesting to come and see it in person,” commented a tourist on Google.
