Ngo Mon Square

What makes it even more special is that the TV bridge to cheer for contestant Vo Quang Phu Duc was located at Ngo Mon Square – a symbolic location of the ancient capital.

Located south of the Imperial City of Hue, Ngo Mon is the main gate leading to the Imperial City – the center of power of the Nguyen Dynasty, the last feudal dynasty of Vietnam. Built in 1833 under the reign of King Minh Mang, Ngo Mon is not only a magnificent architectural work but also holds significant importance in the rituals of the royal family.

Ngo Mon’s structure consists of two main parts: the gate platform and the Ngu Phung Tower. The gate platform is a high stone base with three main passages, the central one being exclusively for the king, and the two side passages for mandarins and soldiers. Above the platform stands the Ngu Phung Tower, a unique architectural masterpiece with a roof system made of multi-colored glazed tiles, symbolizing five phoenixes and representing majesty and nobility.

Ngo Mon Square was where the Nguyen kings performed important rituals such as court sessions, receptions for envoys, or announcements of edicts to the people.
