Why You Should Consider Buying Pork Neck Meat

Contrary to popular belief, pork neck meat offers more than just a high-fat content that can lead to weight gain. It is also a potential source of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular issues.

Medical experts reveal that pork neck contains numerous lymph nodes, which can harbor bacteria and toxins detrimental to one’s health. During pig slaughter, the neck area tends to release a substantial amount of fluid, increasing the risk of bacterial infection. Therefore, consumers are advised to exercise caution when considering this cut of meat.

Pork neck meat consumption can lead to increased fat intake and potential health issues.

In addition to the neck, there are three other pork parts that should be consumed in moderation: liver, chitterlings, and lungs.

Pork liver, a storehouse of cholesterol and heavy metals, can adversely affect one’s health if consumed excessively. The recommended daily cholesterol intake is approximately 300mg, while 100g of pork liver can contain over 400mg. High consumption can lead to health issues such as atherosclerosis and aggravated heart conditions. Furthermore, the liver may harbor parasites like liver flukes and can be infected with viruses and toxins if the pig had hepatitis.

When selecting liver, opt for fresh ones with good elasticity and a smooth surface, avoiding those with a yellowish or purplish hue and a putrid odor. It is advisable to choose liver from pigs that have undergone quarantine inspections. Proper cooking is essential to eliminate bacteria and parasites.

Individuals who are elderly, obese, or suffering from conditions such as hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, gout, kidney failure, or heart failure are particularly advised to refrain from consuming these pork parts.

Chitterlings, or pig intestines, are rich in fat, and their excessive consumption can elevate blood cholesterol levels. Given their function in toxin secretion, chitterlings are considered unclean and require thorough cleaning and cooking to eliminate potential bacteria and viruses that could be introduced into the body during improper handling.

Pig lungs, responsible for the animal’s respiration, can harbor a significant amount of bacteria and viruses due to the pig’s living environment. Therefore, it is advisable to limit the consumption of pork lungs.

Avoid Buying Snakehead Fish

Snakehead fish, a popular freshwater fish known for its tender meat and delicious flavor, presents a challenge due to its numerous tiny bones, making it unsuitable for young children.

This characteristic gave rise to the saying, “buy any fish but not snakehead.” In the past, when living conditions were more challenging, people tended to favor fish with more meat to stretch their budget. As a result, snakehead fish, with its sparse meat and abundance of bones, was deemed wasteful.

Today, with improved living standards and a greater focus on nutrition, many people have started incorporating snakehead fish into their diets, particularly in soups. These dishes not only provide essential nutrients but also offer kidney-toning benefits, making them a healthy choice overall.
