For many, licking the yogurt off the foil lid is a fun treat, and some even enjoy it more than the yogurt itself, finding it creamy and delicious.
However, some consumers find it annoying and inconvenient when yogurt sticks to the lid. To address this, Meiji, a company in Japan, applied an anti-stick technology to their products.
Instead of using the standard foil lid, Meiji added a thin layer of water-repellent nano-wax. This substance mimics the properties of a lotus leaf, exhibiting superhydrophobicity and repelling various liquids.
The mechanism of this material is quite simple. It creates an effect similar to tiny spikes, forming a microstructure on the lid’s surface that creates a gap between the liquid and the foil. As a result, the yogurt gently slides off without sticking.
