Ingredients for Red Wine Braised Beef
Marinade for Beef:
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- ½ teaspoon mushroom-flavored seasoning
- 4 tablespoons red wine
Other Ingredients:
- 500g beef shank
- 3 potatoes
- 1 carrot
- ½ onion
- 1 tomato
- A handful of Chinese celery
- 1 knob of ginger, crushed
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 tablespoons red wine
- 1 liter of water
- 1 tablespoon mushroom-flavored seasoning
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
Cooking Instructions for Red Wine Braised Beef
– Rinse the beef thoroughly under running water.
– In a pot, bring water to a boil with a piece of crushed ginger. Briefly blanch the beef in this water.
– Cut the beef into small, 3cm x 3cm cubes.
– In a large bowl, combine the beef with garlic, five-spice powder, sugar, mushroom-flavored seasoning, and red wine. Mix well and marinate for about 20 minutes.
– Peel and wash the potatoes and carrot, then cut them into bite-sized pieces.
– Wash the tomato and cut it into wedges. Finely chop the onion.
– Trim the roots of the Chinese celery, wash it, and cut it into 2cm lengths.
– Heat a pressure cooker over medium heat. Add cooking oil to the hot pot. Fry the onion until fragrant, then add the tomato and tomato paste. Cook until the tomato softens. Finally, stir in the butter.
– Add the marinated beef and 4 tablespoons of red wine to the pot. Sauté until the beef is lightly browned.
– Pour in the water, cover the pressure cooker, and cook over high heat for about 7 minutes.
– Open the pressure cooker, and season with mushroom-flavored seasoning, salt, sugar, and whole black peppercorns to taste. Add the potatoes and carrot, and continue cooking until all the ingredients are tender.
– When the beef is cooked to your desired doneness, add the Chinese celery to the pot and give it a quick stir.
