Cici, a flight attendant with over five years of experience at a major US airline, regularly shares her flying tips on her social media account, “cici.inthesky,” which has garnered over 639,000 followers.
Based on her experience and personal observations, she has identified some useful tips for travelers flying during the holidays. Recently, she shared her top four tips to keep in mind when traveling by plane during festive periods.
Book the First Flight of the Day
According to Cici, the first flight of the day is more likely to take off on time. This is because the plane and crew are likely to have remained overnight at the departure point. However, she acknowledges that weather conditions could also cause delays.
Monitor the Weather
Cici always keeps an eye on the weather at both her departure and arrival destinations before flying. This helps her mentally prepare or make alternative plans if needed.
Additionally, a day before any flight, especially during holidays, she uses online tools to determine if she should delay or cancel her trip. For example, she uses FlightAware to track her flights online.
Prepare for Delays
Cici always expects potential delays, especially during holidays when travel demand is high. So, she ensures she has all her chargers, extra snacks, and entertainment options to pass the time if she gets stuck at the airport. She also emphasizes the importance of practicing patience during such times.
Download the Airline’s App
Cici recommends downloading the app of the airline you’re flying with during the holidays. These apps often provide notifications about your flight, giving you more control over your itinerary.
Additionally, you can communicate with customer service through the app instead of waiting on the phone or standing in line.
Previously, Cici also offered packing tips for travelers to ensure a smooth journey. She pointed out the five most common mistakes passengers make, including overweight and bulky carry-on luggage, too many bags leading to forgotten items, improper packing of liquids, not bringing a reusable water bottle, and forgetting snacks.
She advises passengers to use tight-sealing bottles for liquids and place them in a ziplock bag to prevent leaks and potential damage to other items.
