The Surprising Uses of a Steam Iron
1. Remove Carpet Stains
Carpets are great at absorbing spills, but this also means that stains can easily set into the fibers. To remove stains from your carpet, hold the steam iron a few centimeters above the stained area for at least 30 seconds, then wipe with a clean, white cloth. Repeat this process until the stain is no longer transferring to the cloth. If the stain persists, you may need to apply a spot treatment.
2. Easily Remove Labels
It can be a struggle to remove tags, labels, and stickers from products, as the adhesive underneath tends to stick firmly to the surface. To easily remove labels and the sticky residue, use a steam iron. The steam will soften the adhesive, making it easier to peel off, especially those stubborn labels.
3. Defrost Your Freezer
If your freezer is manually defrosted, it may occasionally need a helping hand to function optimally. This can be challenging if you have frozen goods inside, as turning off the power will cause them to thaw. To quickly defrost your freezer without affecting its other functions, use a steam iron to blow hot air directly onto the ice. This will efficiently melt away the ice buildup.
4. Sanitize Hard Surfaces
Steam irons can be used to sanitize various hard surfaces, such as door handles, countertops, sinks, faucets, and toilets. The steam can also easily loosen minerals built up in cracks and crevices, effectively removing stubborn stains without the need for harsh chemicals.
5. Clean Grout
Steam is excellent for removing mold and grime from grout between tiles on floors and bathtub walls. Simply move the steam iron over the grout lines and wipe clean with a cloth. Repeat as needed until the grout is fully sanitized.
6. Clean Mirrors and Glass
Bathroom mirrors and glass surfaces are prone to collecting grime. You can effectively remove these stains using steam from the iron and then wiping the surface with a microfiber cloth to prevent new water spots. This method is so effective that you may not need any additional cleaning products.
7. Detail Your Car
Steam is a great way to remove dirt from your car’s wheels and exterior crevices. It’s also highly effective for cleaning the interior, including the carpet, handles, armrests, and steering wheel.
