Roll Down the Windows

This is the simplest way to keep the car interior cool while driving. Open two windows, including the front window to let the wind in and the rear window to let the wind out. If you only open one window, the person sitting in the car may experience ear discomfort.

An effective way to open the windows is diagonally; open the driver’s side window halfway and open the rear window on the right-hand side to a similar width.

Make Use of the Sunroof

When the air conditioning breaks down, the sunroof can help ventilate the car. Most sunroofs have a ventilation feature that allows the air inside the car to still circulate with the outside environment without being too noisy.

Place a Wet Cloth in Front of the AC Vent

If the air conditioner is blowing but not cold, the driver can use a clean, damp cloth and place it in front of the AC vent. Note that you should prepare multiple wet cloths to replace the dry ones. It is recommended to use a cloth soaked in ice water to increase the cooling effect.

Use an Ice Cooler

Prepare a dedicated plastic ice cooler, and do not fill it too full to avoid spilling on the car floor.

Place the ice cooler in the back of the car and open the lid. If there is a rear vent, direct it towards the ice cooler. This helps to cool the cabin and increase humidity quickly.

Use a Handheld Fan

A handheld fan, usually operated by batteries, is also a useful item to have in the car. When the air conditioning fails, the fan helps to ventilate the car and reduce stuffiness.

Keep Your Body Cool

It is recommended to wear breathable, lightweight, and absorbent clothing to keep your body cool while driving. During the journey, the driver can also use facial mists, cooling pads, or wet towels to stay comfortable.
