For Vietnamese travelers eager to explore neighboring China, there’s good news! While a passport and visa are typically required for entry, select tourist spots offer a more streamlined approach. Instead of a visa, these destinations accept a travel pass, making them easily accessible. Let’s uncover these intriguing locations.

Ha Khau – Binh Bien – Di Lac – Kien Thuy – Mong Tu

To venture to these captivating sites in China, travelers will head to Lao Cai and pass through the Lao Cai International Border Gate. Here, a travel pass is essential for entry into Ha Khau, China. From Ha Khau, it’s possible to venture further to breathtaking destinations like Binh Bien, Mong Tu, Kien Thuy, and Di Lac.

In Ha Khau itself, travelers can check out the Ha Khau Train Station and the vibrant Light Park.

Binh Bien welcomes visitors with the enchanting Miao Xi Shui Village, dubbed “one of the 100 most picturesque tourist cities in China.” This village boasts traditional Miao minority houses across an area of approximately 1.4 square kilometers.

A trip to Di Lac unveils the ancient Di Lac Temple, constructed during the Qing Dynasty and nestled in the Mount Cam Binh. Within the temple premises stands an impressive 19.99-meter-tall statue of the Maitreya Buddha, ranking among the tallest seated Buddha statues globally.

Dong Feng Yun, with its unique brick and red ceramic architecture, offers a distinct charm. The surrounding sea of flowering fields adds to the romantic and vibrant ambiance.

The journey also includes a visit to the ancient town of Kien Thuy in the Honghe Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. With a history spanning over 1,200 years and roots tracing back to the Tang Dynasty, Kien Thuy boasts well-preserved ancient buildings.

In Mong Tu, explore the enchanting Wan Mao Garden and Chu Zi Tower, and indulge in the renowned “bún qua cầu” noodle dish.

Vietnamese travelers can opt for destinations in China, such as Ha Khau, Binh Bien, and Mong Tu (adjacent to Lao Cai) or Dong Hung (near Quang Ninh), using only a travel pass without the need for a passport.

Dong Hung

To reach Dong Hung, travelers will go to the Mong Cai International Border Gate in Quang Ninh Province. Here, too, a travel pass is required, along with exit procedures to enter Dong Hung, China.

Attractions in the Dong Hung area include the Bac Luan Friendship Bridge connecting the two countries, the Dong Hung City Hall, the Quan Am Pagoda, the Beibu Gulf Urban Area – Western Street, and the Duc Nhan Duong Pharmaceutical Zone.

Bang Wall

To access Bang Wall, travelers will use their travel pass and cross through the Huu Nghi International Border Gate in Lang Son. Right at the Huu Nghi Border Gate, you’ll find the Km 0 milestone, marking the boundary between Vietnam and China. This spot also marks the starting point of Vietnam’s National Highway 1A, stretching all the way to Ca Mau in the south.

These travel pass-friendly destinations offer convenient day trips for the Móng Cái-Đông Hưng, Lạng Sơn-Bằng Tường, and Lào Cai-Hà Khẩu tours. However, for the Ha Khau-Binh Bien-Di Lac-Kien Thuy-Mong Tu route, an overnight stay of at least two nights is mandatory, with tour options ranging from two days and one night to three days and three nights. These short tours are ideal for weekend getaways and are relatively affordable.
