A little trick from experienced chefs: adding just 2 familiar ingredients to your rice water will make a noticeable difference. It’s a simple secret, but not many people know it.
So, what’s the secret? It’s white vinegar and cooking oil!
– White vinegar keeps the rice grains shiny and sticky: Some people worry that vinegar will make the rice sour, but in fact, just a few drops are enough to enhance the gloss of the rice grains without altering the taste. In addition, vinegar also helps the rice stay slightly stickier and fresher for longer under normal conditions.
– Cooking oil helps the rice stay fluffy and non-sticky: A small amount of cooking oil creates a thin film around the rice grains during cooking, preventing them from clumping together. The rice grains cook evenly, look plump and glossy. Whether served hot or cold, the rice remains delicious.
Easy steps to cook tasty rice:
– Rinse the rice gently and drain the water. Note that when rinsing the rice, do it only 1-2 times to remove dirt and impurities. If you rinse it too many times or rub it vigorously, you will remove the rice bran, which contains many vitamins and natural flavors.
– Measure the water as usual, depending on the type of rice and your preference (sticky or dry).
– Add 3-5 drops of white vinegar to the pot.
– Add ½ teaspoon of cooking oil for every 1-2 bowls of rice.
– Cook the rice as normal.
Once the rice cooker switches to the “keep warm” mode, let the rice steam for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the grains to cook further, becoming softer and more fragrant.
Good luck!
