Recently, singer Truong Bao Nhu, a close friend of Mai Phuong, shared on behalf of Oc Thanh Van: “Through an incident like this, the amount of donations for Lavie after Phuong’s passing, Oc and I sent a sum of over 500 million VND to the bank. By 2023, there was a crisis, and that bank lost its reputation, so we decided to choose another bank. By then, the amount had grown to over 700 million VND, and transferring it from one bank to another incurred a fee.”
I didn’t pay much attention at the time, but when transferring the money, the bank employee asked about deducting 400,000 VND in interest as a transfer fee, to which I agreed. When Oc checked and noticed this deduction, she disagreed. She told me, ‘Why didn’t you say something? I would have paid the 400,000 VND; I want to keep the amount intact, not a single dong less for Lavie.’ I share this to show how generous Oc is,” said Truong Bao Nhu.
Oc Thanh Van cares for Lavie as if she were her own daughter. She continues to buy her school supplies and milk.
Oc Thanh Van and Mai Phuong were close friends and were admired by many. On the day of Phuong’s funeral, Oc Thanh Van wrote a lengthy letter, recalling countless memories between the two. She emotionally conveyed: “All the pain and suffering… Now you can rest in peace. No more struggling to wake up. If I’ve cared for you, I will always care for you.”
Since the sudden passing of actress Mai Phuong, the life of her daughter, Lavie, has received increased attention. In August 2023, Phung Ngoc Huy returned to Vietnam to visit his daughter and then went back to the US to arrange his life and complete the paperwork to sponsor the little princess.
Phung Ngoc Huy shared that although he and his daughter have talked every day over the phone for many years, he couldn’t help but feel nervous about her reaction to having him by her side. He shared about their relationship despite the distance: “I lived in Vietnam until Lavie was over one year old before moving abroad. I even organized her first birthday party before leaving. While overseas, I stayed connected with my child but could only call on weekends due to time zone differences.”
Lavie is the daughter of Mai Phuong and Phung Ngoc Huy.
During our calls, I would ask about her studies, eating habits, and play games together via Facetime. When I prepared to return to Vietnam, my family and friends were overjoyed. I called, and my parents cried tears of happiness. I was excited to see my daughter after eight years apart. Lavie was still young, so she didn’t express much emotion upon hearing about my return, perhaps because she had lived with her nannies since she was little. When I suggested she come to her grandparents’ house, she asked if her nannies could come too.
I would like to express my gratitude to Lavie’s nannies for their dedication and care. They took her to school, on vacations, and various activities. My recent visit to Vietnam was also my first time returning home after eight years, and I was overjoyed and grateful.”
