The Surprising Fat-Burning Power of Unfiltered Coffee

A recent Danish study has unveiled an interesting secret: unfiltered coffee contains cafestol, a fat-soluble compound that has positive effects on the body. Unfiltered coffee is brewed without a paper filter, commonly known as “phin” coffee, which is popular in many countries, including Vietnam.

Unfiltered coffee contains compounds that help reduce visceral fat.

The study found that this type of coffee could help drinkers lose on average 0.88 kg (1.5 pounds) and specifically reduce visceral fat by up to 5%. Additionally, liver function markers tended to improve. Notably, all these benefits were achieved without any changes to the participants’ daily diets.

The Vietnamese ‘phin’ coffee, a type of unfiltered coffee, is beloved by many and could aid in weight loss.

Combining coffee with these four ingredients is both healthy and prevents weight gain.

Unfiltered Coffee: Effective for Fat Loss but with Potential Risks

While cafestol in unfiltered coffee has been proven to aid in body fat reduction, excessive consumption can be detrimental. Experts caution that consuming more than 10 mg of cafestol per day may increase bad cholesterol (LDL) and subsequently impact cardiovascular health.

In the study, the dosage used, equivalent to about four cups of French Press coffee, did not result in elevated cholesterol levels. However, for individuals with a history of or at risk for heart disease, consuming unfiltered coffee should be approached with caution.

Overconsuming unfiltered coffee may negatively impact cardiovascular health.

How to Safely Drink Unfiltered Coffee for Fat Loss

If you wish to harness the power of cafestol in coffee for weight loss, consider brewing methods like French Press, moka pot, or Turkish coffee, which do not use paper filters and retain more of the beneficial compounds.

However, to avoid adverse health effects, limit consumption to 3-4 cups per day and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water. For those concerned about cholesterol, it is essential to get a lipid panel test before and monitor your body’s response.

Additionally, experts advise against drinking coffee all at once; instead, savor it slowly for optimal health benefits and a more enjoyable experience.

No matter how much you love it, stick to 1-2 cups of unfiltered coffee per day.
