How often should you clean the walls?
The walls are often not cleaned regularly, mostly only during general cleaning, important events, or when you move in. However, this is the place that is always covered in dust after a period of use and needs to be cleaned more regularly, especially if you have children and pets.
What you’ll need:
- Cleaning equipment such as: All-purpose cleaner, Mild dish soap, Baking soda
- A sponge
- A scrub brush
- A small cloth or towel
- A roll of paper towels
So how do you properly clean white walls?
Assess your overall items
You should assess the damage and know exactly what problem you are addressing in order to adjust the appropriate cleaning level. The size and type of dirt will determine the amount of work and cleaning tools you need. In general, we can handle any dirt with a soft sponge, but for tougher stains, you may need a scrub brush or a sponge.
Start cleaning
Make sure you have cleaned the space above before you start tidying up. This not only helps the items underneath not get covered in dust flying in the air, but also helps keep the house clean for a longer time.
Method 1: All-purpose cleaning
You can use a cloth or paper towel as desired, then soak it in a cleaning solution. All-purpose cleaners with yellow foam soap will help clean white walls. A little tip is that you should choose an all-purpose cleaner with a texture similar to soap so that you can use the same type to handle any grease stains in the kitchen.
These methods work best for cleaning sticky stains on white walls caused by food or drinks. This cleaning method will be most effective if you deal with them immediately and promptly.
Method 2: Dish soap and a soft sponge
Don’t let the name of the product deceive you, because dish soap is actually a great cleaner for surfaces around the house. Choose a mild dish soap to avoid corroding the wall paint and without too much scent.
For fresh stains, dampen a soft sponge, add a dot of dish soap, and remove the stain. Gently scrub the stain and then wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Repeat this process two or three times to make the wall clean and shiny.
Method 3: Using Baking Soda
If it is a stubborn stain, you can try this natural remedy for all types of stains and surfaces.
All you need to do is: Take some Baking soda and a bowl and mix it with a ratio of three parts baking soda and one part water (you can adjust it as needed) to create a paste-like mixture that is sticky. Then gently apply the mixture on the wall with a damp sponge and let the solution soak in as long as possible. When feel enough time has passed, wipe it clean with a damp cloth or paper towel.
Method 4: Use a scrub brush
If the above methods still don’t help you remove stubborn stains, you can resort to the “magic” scrub brush. Use a damp scrub brush and gently scrub the stain or scratch until the wall is clean. Most of these scrub brushes are strong cleaners so they can easily clean.
Note to gloss and semi-gloss painted walls as the scrub brush can leave a distinctive ‘dull’ mark if used vigorously while scrubbing.
Tips to keep white walls clean longer
Regularly clean on the spot so that stains do not seep into the walls.
Thoroughly vacuum to prevent dust from sticking to the floor and walls. Pay attention to sweeping the dust from the ceiling down to the floor, especially on the ceiling fan as when the fan is running, it will cause dust to fly all over the house and stick to the walls.
Wipe and clean frequently for households with children.
