Whether you live in the countryside or the city, you cannot escape the annoyance of flies. These insects not only cause a lot of trouble and discomfort, but also pose a health risk by carrying bacteria and spreading it when they land on our food.
Flies often land in dirty places, carrying dirt and bacteria on their legs, bodies, and proboscis, and then landing on tables and chairs, as well as food. The more humid, dirty, and unsanitary a place is, the more flies will land there.
Effective ways to repel flies
The following simple tips will help you repel flies and reduce their presence in your living space, minimizing the risk of diseases caused by these pests.
Repel flies with lemon
Apart from its effectiveness in cleaning the house, lemon also works wonders in repelling flies.
Here’s how to do it: Cut a lemon in half and place it in the microwave, leaving the microwave door open overnight. The next morning, close the microwave door and turn it on for a few minutes. When the microwave is turned off, you will notice the smell of lemon spreading throughout the kitchen. Flies are afraid of this smell, so they won’t come near anymore.
Alternatively, you can also place lemon or orange peels in places where flies often land. This method not only makes the corners of your house smell pleasant, but also effectively repels flies.
Effective fly repellent with apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is a familiar ingredient in every kitchen. It not only enhances the flavor of your dishes, but also has the ability to effectively repel flies.
Here’s how to do it: Pour about half a bottle of vinegar into a clean bottle and tightly seal the lid. Place a plastic funnel (or you can make a funnel out of paper) on top of the bottle.
This funnel can easily lure flies in, but it prevents them from escaping. Place the bottle in areas where flies frequently appear to eliminate them.
Get rid of flies with essential oils
Lavender and lemongrass essential oils not only create a pleasant fragrance in your home, but also effectively repel insects. Simply use lemongrass essential oil combined with scented candles to quickly make flies disappear.
Here’s how to do it: Melt a candle and add lemongrass or lavender essential oil to the melted candle. Pour this mixture into a mold with a cotton wick inserted, and wait for it to solidify. Light the candle containing lemongrass or lavender essential oil to drive away flies from your home.

Repel flies with mint leaves
The scent of herbs, especially mint leaves, makes flies uncomfortable and unwilling to come near. You can plant mint around your house to deter flies.
Alternatively, using fresh or dried mint leaves made into hanging bags near doors or trash cans also helps to effectively repel flies.
Effective fly repellent with basil
Basil is often used in cooking, enhancing the delicious flavor of dishes, but its fragrance is disliked by flies. Therefore, you can plant a few pots of basil around your house or near the entrance to prevent flies from entering.
Repel flies with lavender
The fragrance of lavender has the ability to repel insects such as flies, caterpillars, butterflies, and fleas. Place a pot of lavender in your house not only as a decoration, but also to effectively repel insects.
You can also hang some dried lavender flowers around the kitchen or corners of the house, where flies often gather, to make them feel uncomfortable and prevent them from coming near.
Use a soap and chili powder mixture
Mix 1 tablespoon of dish soap or 100 grams of soap powder with 2 tablespoons of chili powder (preferably flavored varieties to attract flies). Pour the mixture into a spray bottle for easy use.
Spray this mixture in areas where flies are landing or where they frequent, making them uncomfortable and preventing them from coming near.
Kill flies with a mixture of pepper, sugar, and milk
Prepare 1/4 liter of milk with 3 teaspoons of sugar and 1 tablespoon of ground black pepper. Pour the ingredients into a bowl and heat it over low heat for about 5-10 minutes.
Then, pour this mixture into a bowl and place it in crowded areas where flies gather to attract their attention. If they fall into the bowl containing this mixture, they will suffocate and die.
These are some effective ways to repel flies that you can apply. Additionally, you should regularly clean your house, keeping the space clean, and well-ventilated to limit the presence of insects.
