Personal hygiene items
Toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, soap bars, razors, cotton buds, combs, and shower caps in hotels are all disposable items, so guests can take them home without any additional charges. However, it is a fact that most of these items are not of the same quality as the ones we buy outside, so you can take them because of preference but not for long-term use.
Complimentary beverages
Most hotels from budget to high-end ones will provide two bottled waters and some tea bags or free coffee packs for guests to use. Usually, you can find them on the table or in the cupboard in the room. These items also do not need to worry about extra charges because they are already included in the room rate.
This makes complimentary bottled water, tea, and coffee a popular choice for travelers and in general, you can safely take them home after checking out. However, note that some other items such as snacks and soft drinks are often not free and should not be taken.
Indoor slippers
It is known that indoor slippers in hotel rooms are disposable, meaning that once guests have worn them, the hotel staff will collect and dispose of them instead of washing or reusing them. The issue of hygiene becomes even more strict especially in luxury hotels.
Usually, the kind of slippers you can take home from hotels are thin, fragile, and sometimes even packed in plastic bags for one-time use. In these cases, no hotel would… ask for the slippers back if guests intentionally take them home. If they do, it means that the hotel is “inferior” enough to let guests reuse the indoor slippers or something like that?
Laundry bags
Many luxury hotels often prepare hanging laundry bags in the wardrobe, which is part of the laundry service provided by the hotel. Therefore, you can consider it as a hotel item that you can take home for free if desired. However, to ensure peace of mind, you should ask the staff for permission before taking and using them.
Travel guidebooks, brochures, and maps
If you want to spend your free time exploring but don’t know where to go, head to the lobby and find the brochures placed near the front desk for reference. At the same time, the front desk staff can also provide you with information about places to visit, eat, as well as send you free travel “handbooks” and maps.
