Refrigerator
You should place a baking soda box stashed in the refrigerator to keep it smelling fresh, but do you know how often it needs to be replaced? You should change the baking soda every 30 days to prevent flavor transfer and keep the food tasting fresher, longer.
Sink
In your sink drain and on the surface of your sink, there might be a layer of residue creating some odors. To fix this, sprinkle baking soda in the sink, use a sponge to scrub and clean both the top and bottom, then rinse with hot water. Be sure to dispose of any leftover food and debris right after washing the dishes.
Dealing with residue in the sink drain
To clean the residue, pour hot water down the drain for a few minutes and then pour ½ cup of baking soda in. After a few minutes, pour more hot water to flush it away. To further freshen and deodorize, add a few pieces of lemon wedges around the sink, then rinse with cool water. With this treatment, your kitchen area will be clean and fresh.
Cutting board
Use baking soda to clean wooden or plastic cutting boards. First, make a paste of baking soda and water, then scrub the cutting board with this mixture. Afterwards, rinse thoroughly with hot water.
Pots & Pans
Baking soda can also be used as an effective cleaning agent for dirty pots and pans. Simply sprinkle soda onto the pan and pour hot water to create a paste. Leave this mixture on the dirty area for an hour, then scrub away with a soft cloth or sponge. All grease and burn stains will be cleaned and shiny. For your microwave, also sprinkle baking soda inside and wipe clean to eliminate any lingering food odors.
Dishwashers often have strong food odors. Sprinkle baking soda at the bottom of the dishwasher to easily remove the trapped food odors. To thoroughly clean the dishwasher, use a soft cloth or sponge and hot water, then scrub the edges around the dishwasher door.
Trash can
Whether your kitchen is modern or not, there must be a trash can, and the trash can is one of the biggest culprits for causing odors. Clean the trash can regularly by disposing of the trash at the end of the day, sprinkle baking soda on a sponge, and wipe the container clean. Then, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda at the bottom of the bin to minimize any lingering garbage odors.
