Phones, like any other electronic device, cannot withstand water. Water can damage the circuitry and components inside the phone. However, there are many situations where we accidentally expose them to water, such as getting caught in the rain or spilling a glass of water…
Among the current phone models, iPhone is believed to be able to withstand water, but not all models are the same. Some phones are advertised as water-resistant, but they can only withstand a certain level of water. Therefore, it is important to protect your phone from water damage.
If your phone gets wet, here are some quick steps you can take:
Quickly turn off the phone
Turning off the phone is a way to reduce the risk of fire in the device. So, turn off the phone immediately and proceed to the next steps. This step is similar to when you see a problem with the electrical wiring and need to cut off the power quickly.
Dry the phone
After turning off the phone, quickly use a soft cloth to thoroughly dry your phone. Then, if you see a moisture warning when plugging in the charger, do not continue charging. Instead, let the phone dry first before charging.
Remove liquid from the speaker first
The speaker of the phone is the most vulnerable part to liquid damage, so it is important to dry this part first before using it to prevent muffled or muted sound. You can use a cotton pad to absorb moisture or use a moderately powered vacuum cleaner to do this.
Detach the phone if possible
If you have a phone case and it is wet, quickly remove the case to dry it. If your phone allows for removable back covers, you can remove the back cover and use a cotton pad or tissue to absorb any moisture. However, do not force it if you are unsure how to do it.
Place it in a rice container to absorb moisture
Do not directly bury the phone in rice as it can cause rice particles to get into the crevices and introduce rice dust to the circuitry. Instead, wrap the phone in a tissue or toilet paper to absorb moisture and protect it, then bury it in the rice container to enhance the moisture absorption without risking rice dust contamination.
After that, try charging the phone again to see if it returns to normal. If the phone functions properly, you can continue charging the battery. If the phone still displays a moisture warning when plugging in the charger, do not continue charging.
To avoid water damage to your phone, be mindful of its usage. When drinking water, especially if you are with children, make sure to put the phone in a bag instead of placing it on the table. When you need to place it on the table, remember to place it face down.
