Using tamarind to remove the fishy smell

Everyone knows that tamarind is a familiar spice in Vietnamese kitchens. And now is the time to use them. You take 1 to 2 tablespoons of tamarind and soak them in fresh water, then use it to marinate the squid meat. Rub the tamarind evenly on all surfaces of the squid. Leave it for about 5 minutes to remove the fishy smell from your squid dish.

Then, you use clean water to wash off the remaining tamarind on the surface of the squid and put the squid in a basket to drain the water before processing them into individual dishes.

Using vinegar to remove the fishy smell

Everyone knows that vinegar can remove the fishy smell from many seafood items, and it is also a trick to remove the fishy smell from fresh squid. You do the same as with tamarind, but use a little vinegar so that the vinegar smell doesn’t affect the aroma of the dish.

Just soak for about 3 minutes, then rinse immediately with clean water. Rinse directly under running water. Drain before cooking to have a fragrant and appetizing dish without any fishy smell.

Using lime to remove the fishy smell

Lime contains a lot of acids and has a fragrant smell, so it is perfect for removing the smell of squid. You squeeze about 2 to 3 limes to have enough for one round of removal. Remember to only use the lime juice, not the lime seeds.

You squeeze the squid gently with lime juice, no need to wait long, rinse the squid immediately under running water, and let it drain in a basket.

Using white wine

White wine can be replaced with white grape wine. Red wine and whiskey should not be used because the color will affect the quality of the squid after initial processing. I tried using wine once and the squid had a strong smell of alcohol, dark color, and the meat was no longer tender. Next, you squeeze the squid with wine and then rinse it under water. Let it drain and wait for cooking.

Second, adding a little wine will make your squid dish more fragrant and flavorful. Because when cooking squid: stir-frying, steaming… Remember to add wine when it’s almost done. Cooking squid with wine on the stove for a long time will remove the fishy smell but also the delicious aroma of the squid.

Using sesame oil to remove the fishy smell of squid

This is also a quick and effective way that many women apply to remove the fishy smell of squid. With this trick, you just need to marinate the pre-processed squid with a few drops of sesame oil and automatically remove the fishy smell of the squid.
