According to Business Insider, there was recently a question posed on Ask Reddit surveying people about items they have bought cheaply before ditching the cheap ones for more expensive high-quality ones. Over 30,000 users participated in the thread, sharing about items they think should not be too frugal when shopping.
Here is a list of 15 items that were chosen the most.
1. Knife set
An Ask Reddit user shares, “Many novice cooks buy the biggest handle knife they can because they think that’s a good knife, but it’s not.” Another user writes, “You really only need three high-quality knives: a paring knife, a chef’s knife, and a serrated knife.”
2. Tires
“Good tires will help you drive well in both dry and wet conditions. Tires are what keep over a ton of metal you’re sitting inside stuck to the road. Do you really want to save some money when buying tires?” a user shared.

“I choose good-quality, well-fitting underwear,” another person wrote.
4. Bed sheets
“I bought sheets made of Egyptian cotton fabric. They were expensive, but now I feel like I’m sleeping on a cloud,” one user shared.
5. Pillow
A user shares, “Pillows are very important. After I bought an expensive pillow that is the most comfortable one I’ve ever had, the quality of my sleep improved 10/10.”
6. Toothbrush
“I can’t forget the refreshing feeling I feel in my mouth when using a good toothbrush. My dentist complimented me on having less plaque,” one person shared.

8. Makeup
“There are so many great makeup and drugstore products, but they can’t compare to the quality of my products,” a female user shared.
9. Pen
A user’s opinion: “Once I bought a good-quality pen, I started writing more notes at work just because I want to write something.”
10. Coffee
“All I do is buy coffee beans and grind them for enjoyment,” a male user shared.
11. Bicycle
“After using a $99 bicycle bought at Walmart for three years, I bought a $480 one. There’s a huge difference. The new bike is more efficient and designed to fit your body comfortably,” an opinion of a user.

13. Socks

14. Shoes
“The difference between my $14, $80, and $120 shoes is very very big,” a user shared.
15. Jeans
